'Around half' of newest Tory MPs submit no confidence letters

    Laura Kuenssberg

    Political editor

A Tory MP has claimed to the BBC that "around half" of the group of about 20 MPs elected in 2019 have this morning submitted letters of no confidence in Boris Johnson in an attempt to trigger a leadership contest.

The MP says that quotes from ministers that they were "idiots" and "fools" had hardened their attitude, and that some of them were threatened with losing their seats under planned boundary changes last night.

MPs submit their letters secretly so it is impossible to confirm the number that have already been submitted.

Only MP Sir Graham Brady, chair of the Conservative backbench 1922 committee - who receives and counts up the no-confidence requests - knows the exact number.

But they are required to reach a threshold of 15 percent of the Tory Parliamentary Party, or 54 in this case, before a vote is triggered.

The BBC story was just red meat lobbed to the base to deflect away from Johnson’s crisis. That vacuous hoofclunge Dorries back peddled from the ‘end of the licence fee’ bollocks when questioned in the house. It all of a sudden became a matter for future debate.

Companies like Netflix operated with something like a $17bn debt. But they sell programmes like Squid games which keeps their cash flow charts viable.

I can't see anybody really wanting to take on that sort of debt to run the BBC, if that is the long term plan, to sell it off.

Any discussion about the future of parts of the BBC and whether they should be commercialised or not, is one that should take place cross party and with the consensus of the public, as it’s a British institution renowned across the globe.

It’s future shouldn’t be based on whether the headlines on the 6 O’clock news are flattering enough for the Tories.

It’s incredible that the talentless twat that is Nadine ****ing Dorries has somehow ended up as culture Secretary ffs. Laughable.

    Agreed.

The same thing should have happened when the Tories also sold off other parts of our national infrastructure

    Will they **** though.

BBC World has adverts so presumably is at least partly funding itself. Its my go to Channel for news as they don't build their journalists up as actually more important than the news, like CNN or Fox, and still have plenty of reporters, on the ground around the world.

Also they have Yalda Hakim reporting on Afghanistan, who comes across as not only smart but dirty as well.

The bulk of my income is on PAYE, I have a K tax code, yet I still end up owing the ****ers a wedge every year. It’s a black art.

Remember highlighting the forum to the delights of Yalda Hakim earlier in the year.

    Ione Wells is another :emoticon-0152-heart

And as for the BBC itself, I know people accuse it of being biased and to a degree you're never going to escape that. But when you compare it to the commercial news channels likes Fox, CNN, or god forbid GB News, you begin to get an idea of how partisan news can actually be.

I tend to listen to Radio 4 more than TV news tbh. And some of the depth that their programmes go into is first class journalism.

Strong rumours that the 54 letters of no confidence being lodged is now a formality. This is the beginning of his demise, he’s toast.
