1 suspended, 2 injured 4 at ACON (one they refuse to play) plus 3 covid cases. Laughable to claim this is covid related
This will be a ****ing joke if it’s called off. Sets such a bad precedent. We may as well just write the season off now if this is what is going to happen ongoing
It will be called off imo...there is no way they waited until gone 3pm on the Friday before a weekend match without being assured it'll be granted. They'll have been discussing it behind the scenes all day. Farcical that we'll have to start playing 2 games a week and suffer the problems that will cause but that won't be considered
Becoming a complete farce now. Taking my dad to this one for his birthday as well! Gutted if it doesn’t go ahead.
My mate came back from Malta for the Chelsea game on Wednesday and the NLD on Sunday… won’t be a happy trip back for him if it’s postponed, well it already hasn’t been a happy trip back It’s ****ing farcical but I also expected it from the goons after the way Arteta spoke the other night. Will be interesting to see if it does get canned. It’s a big live fixture for Sky and thus far one case of covid shouldn’t be enough to postpone it. Teams know the deal with African players and AFCoN whilst injuries are part and parcel of the sport and we have enough of our own so there’s little to no advantage of the game going ahead from our perspective anyway. Realistically, assuming Odegaard is the only positive case, the game should 100% go ahead. But then we’re relying on the Premier League/ FA to maintain integrity and well… we all know the answer really.
Every club's done this = Liverpool and Man Utd have done this. Will the Premier League bottle it now that Carraville have denounced it? Possibly.
We know what will happen, the game will go ahead and Arsenal will play their kids and we will still lose! Be so Spursy!
Nah...postponed and 3 days before the new date we lose 8 players to illness and the Premier league make us play because of the integrity of the league
I did post this in the Bill Nicholson Arms but it’s a bit of a graveyard over there so I’ll repost here! I’m doing the stadium tour on Saturday. Does anyone know if any of the places to eat and drink will be open on non match days? If not anyone recommend anywhere near that does decent food and beers (not too pricey). Due to having a young family I haven’t been able to go much the last few years but I have a few games booked up coming up so just wanted to find a good destination! any ideas would be much appreciated!
I looked up the rule....which is in Appendix 17 of the PL Handbook. It seems Arsenal are within their rights to ask for a postponement whatever the reason their players are unavailable. However some U21 players will count towards the 14. "Postponement of League Matches Guidance 3. Following the issue of an Implementation Notice, the Board will only permit the rearrangement or postponement of a League Match in exceptional circumstances, which will be judged on a case-by-case basis. 4. However, by way of guidance to Clubs: i. Permission will not be granted to postpone a League Match where the applicant Club has 14 or more Players listed on its Squad List available ii. Where the Club has fewer than 14 such Players available to participate in the relevant League Match, the Board may permit the application, save where one or more of the following scenarios applies: a. One or more of the Club’s Squad List Players’ inability to participate is attributable to a failure by the Club or the Player concerned to comply with any medical (or other) protocol issued by the Board in accordance with Rule C.18 (‘Protocol’) b. One or more of the Club’s Squad List Players’ inability to participate is as a result of the Player being subject to Government-mandated isolation following a return from overseas c. The Club was able to utilise a Replacement Player (as defined at paragraph 11, below) but, for whatever reason, failed to do so Appendix 17 Competition Interruption - Squad Management Protocol 5. Further, in respect of any application by a Club to reschedule or postpone a League Match due to concerns regarding insufficient Squad List Players, the Board will also give consideration to: i. The number of registered Under 21 Players (and their relevant experience) available to the Club at the relevant time. Clubs will be expected to utilise appropriately experienced Under 21 Players. This will include any Under 21 Player who has made a first team appearance for: a. The Club b. Another Premier League or EFL club c. An overseas club ii. The relevant position(s) of the Squad List Player(s) who is/are unavailable (for example, the availability of appropriately experienced goalkeepers) 6. For the avoidance of doubt, the Board believes that it would be extremely difficult to realistically apply and enforce any sort of subjective weighting against the level of a Player who may become unavailable for whatever reason. Process 7. Any application by a Club for the Board to exercise its discretion to rearrange or postpone a League Match must be: i. Made as far in advance of the relevant League Match as reasonably practicable ii. Accompanied by all evidence that the Club wishes the Board to consider in support of its application 8. If the Club’s application is turned down by the Board, the Club must complete the fixture."
Pretty much every food outlet will be open mate, though I'm struggling to think of a place that does beer and food in close proximity of the ground. The new Beavertown Corner Pin is open and I'm sure they do, it's literally bang next to the stadium, I've not been in there though so no idea on prices so can't promise it'd be cheap. Can Ciger/ Spur Restaurant does decent but quite pricey Turkish grub, they have Efes and one or two other beers in bottles. Brown Eagle used to have some alcohol in there if you like Caribbean food, it's been about 6 years since I last went in there though so may have changed on the alcohol front. Don't think any of the local pubs do food unless I'm just being thick and forgetful (which is likely) but you can take a 15 min walk into Edmonton and go to the The Gilpins Bell, it's got a good selection of relatively cheap booze (used to be a Spoons about 7 years ago) and they do very, very basic pub grub, and I mean very basic so don't go in there looking for a 5 star meal. Alternatively - and the best option, obviously - is have a few beers in any of the locals and then go Chick-King.
Cheers Dier hard really appreciate you taking the time to give an in depth reply!! I think I may well go for your final option, lots of beers and then chick king on my walk back to seven sisters! Cheers mate!
Could be worse. They could all have food poisoning, in which case they would certainly have to play. We all know teams have been forced to play before under more difficult circumstances, but as has been said, it's not as if the PL has set standards for integrity and consistency is it. I wonder if the Arse fans who were screaming at LIverpool the other day for bending the rules have shut up now?
I think the rule is new this season. Whether it is the right rule is open to debate but I can't see any evidence that it isn't being applied consistently so far.
Until there is transparency in knowing how many covid cases were taken into account in previous postponements I would have thought it is hard to say whether there is consistency. I suggest that covid cases should be published. And one other thing that will never happen. If you get a match postponed for covid, then when it is replayed you can play players that were covid positive or isolating at the time... but you can't play anyone that was absent for the team for any other reason. This means you cannot play in a rearranged match those that were injured, suspended, away at another competition or you hadn't signed yet.
