Keep seeing this link to Kounde... can't see us splashing £75m on anyone, nor can I see us signing a CB considering we've got at least five atm so we're certainly not going to spend £75m on a CB are we?
"At least five" don't you know we need at least eight? We're well short...

Could mean someone's leaving. There have been rumours around Gomez. But it's most likely a made-up or agent thing that all the hacks are copying. "BBC Sport have reported, from El Nacional, via Teamtalk" - a quote of a quote of a quote, quoted by the Echo for clickbait.

Just his agent drumming up some interest. Chelsea were linked but have gone quiet so he prob needs to get things moving.

400k is not even the biggest wage in the prem.

its parity with KDB and below ronaldo's ridiculous man utd wage.

To be honest I don't find this a very compelling argument as contracts only come up when they come up and in general they go up if a player performs to the market external to the club not the wage structure internally.

Our current top earners
VVD 220k 2025
Salah 200k 2023
thiago 200k 2024
trent 180k 2025
Fabinho 180k 2026
firmino 180k 2023
alisson 150k 2027
henderson 140k 2025
mane 100k 2023
robbo 100k 2026
jota 90k 2025
konate 90k 2026

(leaving out people who won't be getting new dales like keita or ox or milner etc)

If there is one man that the salah contract will influence then the press have already picked him out in Mane as he is only on 100k per week apparently.

If trent for example walked in to klopps office saying salah is on 400k per week then klopp would reply "und?" we won;t be talking to trent until 2023 about his deal and then he will be demanding top top wages based on city and cheslea offers.

I think we are due to see changes here. I'd not be giving firmino a bumper deal here and on the inconsistency I'd be hard pressed to give mane 250k a week at 30 for 3 or 4 years when i could buy a younger man for that wage.

imo This goes back to how long and how much. If salah wants 400k up to 2025 then i'd really consider it as klopp is right he puts everything into his game and dedication so if theres a cliff it won't be due to him not being arsed like bale.

the contracts show our spine of team (back 5 plus fabinho are well looked after and we have jota tied up) but we have to resolve salah and then buy.

the alternative argument is - because our wage bill is already very high and this would lead to higher demands from other players .

Why is our wage bill so high? Sounds like we're incredibly wasteful - we're giving a big money to Milner to sit on the bench and be a cheerleader, we just gave Hendo a stupid new contract, then we have the fringe players earning a fair whack.

We made a tough but fair decision with Gini but that all went out of the window when we have decided to pay Hendo £200k a week so as far as I'm concerned, give Salah £400k.

And let's hope giving Salah this does set a precedent -

Join the club on a decent wage
Win trophies and get paid big bonuses
Become the best player in the world and get top wages

well you already know that i also feel the new contract for Hendo was bizarre but how do you intend paying for all this ?

I wouldn't mind as much if we sold him and the club adequately replaced him to improve the squad.

Unfortunately ever since winning the CL, I don't really have faith that we will do enough business to get us back to where we need to be.

I genuinely believe we would have already sold Salah, Mane and/or Bobby but for the pandemic.

Not being able to get the expected income for them shat on our 'recycle' approach.

We're supposedly one of the biggest teams in the world, with record revenues, new sponsorship deals, new kit deals, and got a new investment from RedBird. Off the back of winning the CL and PL.

This is all the sh*t that is constantly thrown at us by the club and journalists, and we can't afford to keep the best player in the world (or even buy some players).
