There was a promotion on. It’s hardly Liverpool coming to town is it?

That game was part of a Xmas package, pay to watch Town v Lincoln and Town v Wycombe, get a free ticket to watch Town v Sunderland (classed as category z match)

After todays performance its made me reflect on our squad and perhaps actually we don't need as many players as we though. In fact if Coulsen comes back to fitness firing on all cylinders I'd say we perhaps only need a couple of CBs if this is going to be our preferred formation because I don't think Nsiala and maybe Burgess would be suited to it.

Completely agree. He hasn’t gone back so there must be plans to get him on the pitch again. And Penney has really flourished since cook left.

Walton recalled with one week of notice. We should play Hladky Saturday IMO.

It’s a strange thing to do if we are negotiating. I reckon it means it’s broken down or he has other offers.

I think 800k is a bit over the top for a League One goalie. For £3m we could sign a top Championship or Premier League understudy keeper!

I wonder what Ashton's tactic will be? Try to get it done early or leave it until late in the window to get the price down?

Walton could play it difficult with Brighton too if he refuses to move to any club but Ipswich.

Wont this be an 11th hour type deal? Usually where they seller wants rid, the player wants out and a buyer is willing and waiting it’s quick and easy but here there’s lots more dynamics at play. His value must be modest as his contract is only 6minths left but he’s not gonna take lower wages than if he hangs out until he’s a free agent etc in the summer so he’s got options to consider while Brighton won’t take the first offer on the table (from us I imagine) while there’s 2 weeks of the window left and plenty of other punters in the market? Be interested what others know of transfer dynamics that might help understand how it might pan out.

We should not pay above £1m for Walton. He’s not worth more than that. Remember too how often a loan player fights to get a contract then goes off the boil as soon as they have a contract in hand.

Interesting one this. He has played very well for us and is clearly enjoying his football and mates here at Ipswich. I suspect the present excitement, new Club structure, his friends, and the style of play, as well as he knows how essential it is keeping a clean sheet, and maybe some family here by now, all might encourage him to show 2 fingers to Brighton and tell his agent he wants In here. Ashton and owners will be shrewd savvy wise in negotiations.

At the end of the day, if a player is playing well, highly regarded and is happy & wants to stay, he wont go. Price tag? Difficult to give honest appraisal. £3m no way, £1m possibly. He is probably at the performance level of Championship easily, and by now at most Premiership clubs. But as others have commented, that level can quickly drop if he is unhappy, lost motivation etc. If it was me, and I live along the coast from Brighton, I know where I would prefer to be! Suffolk is far more attractive!

With Waltons contract at Brighton expiring at the end of the season surely his value decreases every week, hes a good keeper at this level no doubt about that and i would be pleased if we did get him on a permanent basis but we shouldnt pay silly money for a player who has just weeks left on his contract.

Spot on. He’s not the only option, he just happens to be with us. I say make an offer and if Brighton don’t want to take it then wait until the summer.

Cheers Toto for your service. One of the very few players who always gave his all through the darkest peacetime era in our history so it’s a bit sad to be shown the door just as things seem to be coming right!

Farewell Toto, we did like you and your personality and you gave it your all during a difficult period for Town. However, we had our hearts in our mouths whenever you passed back!

Here's wishing you all the best.
