So, my COVID test yesterday hurt like hell. I think my wife thought I was overreacting when I jolted back in pain. Still hurts now over 24hrs later.

Been reading some articles, and seeing the stories of people going to emergency rooms for the pain following a covid test makes me feel a little better about my jolting back in pain.

I think if I ever get tested again I want to be sedated under general anesthesia. . It will be quite ironic if the worst symptom I get from COVID is the covid test.

/ Not trying to scare people from getting tested, pain is rare and something to do with internal nose shape. It's important people get tested. It's very unusual to have the experience I did.

It's worse in America because we have such few days PTO. If I take a sick day, it means one less day of vacation I get... And when you consider some people only get 2 weeks vacation a year (thankfully, I've stayed with my current company so long I'm closer to 4 weeks now, and my boss deliberately reports me as being in the office when I take PTO to give me unofficial extra on top of that.

Taking a sick day is quite a commitment for some folk though. If you get 10 days off a year, one sick day is 10% of your time off for the whole year. Who is going to waste that for the sniffles?

Of course now, they let us work from home for just about any excuse so I'm never going into work sick again.

See most companies give you x Days off sick a year.
My company I get 6 months paid sick pay at full pay then 6 months at half pay.

However if we have 5 days a year then go onto sickness review etc. don’t have to use your actual holiday if your off sick.

I've worked a few places like that. I'd say majority have just combined PTO though... And I don't completely blame them, because people did abuse the sick days and just take time off because they wanted to rather than because they were sick at the places I worked that had sick leave.

For people like me, who are rarely sick (and don't abuse the system), three weeks vacation is better than being given two weeks vacation and two weeks sick leave.

Honestly though, my current boss usually fixes the books to say I was in the office on the rare occasion I do take a sick day rather than making me take time off.
I think she has half an eye on retirement so doesn't mind taking risks for her staff to make them have a better experience. She knows we have crappy time off policy. Although after 10 years here and an extra day off a year each year (up to a max of four weeks, which I've now hit), I do get better time off than most people in the US now even without my illegitimate time off.

Sadly now mogg and his moron pet boris have got their way conditions here built.up over time in europe will be eroded.

The opposite end of the spectrum however is germany where it's just taking the ****ing piss they have so much time off... or Switzerland. Our swiss officials and even polish office have bank holidays in Thursdays every month they are off for 4 day holidays cos they only need the one bridging day to be off skiing or what have you.

In the end in the era of covid now we need legislation to force companies to give people.paid time.off when sick to avoid shutting half the place. Especially in businesses where they will be closed down if their staff fare sick.

Imagine going to a restaurant fine, everyone is fine you are with but the staff cough all over you and give you it. You would complain and sue if really sick no?

The restaurant owner could have made one person stay home and kept open which is far less costly that shutting the place down and losing the week of revenue.

It only makes sense.

Anyhow, just got my COVID results back. Says I'm negative... Which was a small surprise since I have had mild sore throat and fatigue.

Bigger surprise my wife tested negative. She had coldlike symptoms when we got tested which have ballooned to fever now and feeling very miserable. (She's hacking away in the next room right now).

Either we both tested too early, or my daughter hasn't managed to pass the Covid on to us. . But perhaps the biggest take away from this, perhaps the reason my COVID symptoms are so incredibly mild is because I don't have COVID.

If you had a pcr test done right (which didnt sound like it) then any sort of dna remnant in the sample would be detected. They replicate it up hugely in the test.

I sincerely doubt you both had symptoms and tested negative and the tests were done right.

Yes, they were PCR. Which is reportedly 97% accurate... So it would be less than 1% chance we both had COVID and both tested negative.

I had mild sore throat and fatigue... But it could be bad Xmas diet and allergies, not necessarily COVID. I'm not that surprised I'm negative.

The Mrs on the other hand clearly has something: covid would be my main suspect. Cough, fever, sore throat, headache, fatigue. But it is possible she has the flu not COVID. Dunno. My youngest tested positive, but it's theoretically possible hers was a false positive, hers was done in the doctor's office and same day results so wasn't PCR. I think false positives are very rare though.. would have to look it up.



If I had to guess, my.wife is one of the three percent who get a false negative... And I simply don't have it, my symptoms were a coincidence. I don't know why my other daughter who got tested at same time hasn't had results back yet... That's a bit weird. It will be interesting what hers say.

Well antigen with symptoms is 70% accurate. With no symptoms its 50/50 if they even do it right.

So yeah it could be you guys have a different disease totally.

PCR if theres dna in that sample itll show up as the replicate the **** out of the stuff here at least.

I haven't got retested because I'm not sick, but wife got retested yesterday and we just got results back, positive this time. We've been isolated so she must have been a false negative last time.

Either that or we were just too soon getting her tested the first time, although symptoms had just about started.

3% false negative, so I'm willing to believe it's possible she was a false negative... Odds are incredibly slim we both got false negative though, so I'm assuming my negative was real. May get retested myself to be sure.

In the end you are doing the same thing either way so the only reason to waste another pcr test is to get back to work earlier I guess.

I'm at the point now where we.know what to do with symptoms and isolation and theres so.many cases we are only wasting them telling us what we know. But boris and his ilk dont want us to test so if I do get symptoms I'll take the test just to spite the swine.

... And yes, I do want to get back in the office. I took a weeks vacation to pack boxes BEFORE I even began isolation... I'm going stir crazy.

Obviously don't want to get anyone else sick, but I am ready to get back in the office and not working from home.... And I'm pretty sure my plants and fish in the office are probably all dead by now... Maybe not the fish... Never feed them anyway...

5 days after exposure might be too soon to get a positive result.

Fortunately there's only a few and they're all same species (white cloud mountain minnows) and they have tiny mouths so can't eat each other. They get by eating algae and bits of plants when not fed enough. The bigger worry isn't food actually, it's that the water level has dropped so low that the pump is being really loud and pissing off my coworkers . I usually top it off each morning with whatever water is left in the kettle from the previous workday because it evaporates like crazy.

Maybe so but if theres dead rna in your hooter then itll come.up so if you had symptoms them it strongly suggests presence of viral load.

So one in three deer tested in Ohio have it. (Similar results in other states but Ohio tested more). What's more, the virus spike protein has already mutated in deer so if (when) it jumps back to people it would be a brand new variant for us to fight.

Skunks can get it, cats and dogs can get it (but don't seem to pass it to each other very easily). All kinds of rodents get it...Rodents are a major problem as many rodents carry many coronaviruses so plenty of chance to chop and swap nucleotides with other coronaviruses.

Huge animal reservoirs for the virus to mutate in and reinfect us out there... And if getting rednecks vaccinated is a challenge, there is no way we're going to be able to get all rodents in the world vaccinated...
