He’s a beast when fit but that’s the problem isn’t it. He’s only 23 and would be like our marque signing.
It’s possible we make one of them which turns out bad but it attracts other players.
He went to manu to early. That’s what ruined him. To much expectation.
Plus he was made of glass.
And man could he pull some weird faces.
May I just put everything into perspective. This time last year we had Mike Ashley. Steve Bruce. And the only signing we made was Joe Willock on loan.

I just find it strange people being picky I mean you last post about last Jan? There hasn't been a name linked I wouldn't want.
True. I think we need to be choosing the right players who will actually run out on the pitch.
Dembele is a good player but seems to be injured a lot. So is Umtiti. Both would be brilliant if you could get them out on the pitch.
The fact that we are being linked with the players we are is just good in itself.
Just need that Southampton match postponed.
Well I'm on record saying ultimately you need good players.. We've already got enough cloggers.
There's no type of player we need and there's no reason why a bit of everything can't or shouldn't be brought in
What we need is some real quality and they'll get it..

The turn of the year is, of course, a time when we all reflect on the past and look forward to the future.
Despite the current challenges, we see a bright and, ultimately, successful future for Newcastle United. The Club has amazing fans. It has serious, long-term investors. And the Club has a workforce committed to getting the best for both the football club and the City of Newcastle.
Obviously, we face some stern challenges ahead of us – not least the issues surrounding the continuing pandemic. But we will meet these challenges with fierce determination and a strong resolve to improve every aspect of the Club, while playing a full role in the community we serve.
As we look back at the last twelve months, we were of course delighted to finally complete the purchase of the Club on 7 October.
This reflected the patience of each investor and the belief that we would get the deal done. It also reflects the commitment of Mike Ashley and his team – shown over a lengthy period – to ensure that not only did the deal go through, but that ownership of the Club passed to people who could take the Club forward responsibly. We thank Mike and his team for that commitment as, without it, the deal would not have been possible.
We also thank each member of our staff, who have embraced the changes that have already been made and shown a tremendous work ethic in very demanding circumstances. We all know that we have a great deal to do, but we will strive to fulfil this great Club’s promise.
As ever, the massively passionate support of our fans will be crucial as we look to improve our results on the pitch. We have had a very tough first half of the season, but you have been right behind the team and we want to take this opportunity to let you know how very much we appreciate it. Our most recent match at St. James’ Park showed the power that can be generated when the players and supporters unite and feed off each other, and it was wonderful to experience that special atmosphere.
Let’s take that positivity into 2022 as we aim to progress on and off the pitch. We have very important fixtures ahead of us and a January transfer window that we have worked tirelessly to prepare for, so let’s face our challenges head on and look forward to the second half of the season with optimism.

Nice words. The thing is it’s genuine. Not just spin. That’s the key thing. It genuinely feels like we are going in the right direction.
And sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forwards.

Have they ever played down their intentions? No they've made it crystal clear what that is from day 1.

I think some of the talk of marquee signings is wide of the mark (just my opinion) but they know they will be judged (fairly or otherwise) by what they do in January. If at the end of the month we haven't notably improved the squad then there will be a lot of questions about whether a) they are fur coat and no knickers or b) no-one wants to come.
They have stoked the fire on this one so you have to assume they are confident they will actually be able to pull off some decent sigings.
Personally I think we need 1-2 CBs, a CM and a striker (yes more would be good but they are the minimum for me to see it as a statement window).
I'd be very happy with players of the ilk of Tarkowski, Trippier, Lingard, etc that have been linked. I just don't see some of the pipedream names others are talking about.
