Soon as Root and Malan went out without big hundred it was game over im afraid. Even if we get a hell of a partnership from these 2 it won't be enough. At least there have been a few signs we can bat in this 2nd innings
For the sake of the other 4 matches, we could do with Stokes getting some good time at the crease here.
1st one was tough, should have been taken, but very tough. The 2nd was ****ing pathetic. It is hard enough competing with this lot with our batting collapses but this makes it impossible.
Ben Brown has left Sussex. Even though he's often batted in Div 2 of the Championship, his stats look good and would probably be more consistent than Lewis, batting at number 7. Probably aren't looking to make any more signings though, assuming that Donald will be fit for the start of next season.
We should be all over Brown. Significant upgrade in red ball cricket, and would be available for the 50 over competition. The experience he would bring to the latter would almost be as important as his batting - someone for Abbott to bounce ideas off etc.
He left Sussex for a new challenge. Now, I'm going to presume he's looking for div 1 cricket. So that's us, Essex, Gloucs, Kent, Lancs, Northants, Somerset, Surrey, Warks and Yorks. I'm going to rule out Warks, Essex, Gloucs, Lancs, Northants and Surrey. None of those teams will be in the market for a keeper (I'm assuming Brown wants to stay behind the stumps). I can't see Somerset being too interested either with Davies and Banton. That leaves us and Yorkshire. And I make us a lot more appealing to Brown. Firstly, we're much more local to Brown. And secondly because of the negative press Yorkshire have been getting. And we were mighty close to winning the Championship last season.
Because he was scoring runs for fun for Surrey. Please, feel free to suggest an opener who we haven't tried.
I have tried but can't think of any English players recently, other than James! I am a bit biased. Neser gets Hameed, that's not what we wanted.
