    Just listening to BBC parliament.

Lots of Tory MPs telling their health secretary that he’s going OTT with the restrictions because omicron doesn’t yet have the evidence of increased hospitalisation.

But, the Govt dragged their heels the first time and we ended up with huge rates of hospitalisation and death.

So you can see why they are erring on the side of caution. I’m one of this Govts biggest critics, but tbf they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Compulsory vaccinations for frontline NHS and care home workers…..

On the one hand, I don’t agree with anybody being compelled to have a vaccine

On the other, would you be comfortable if an elderly or sick relative had to receive close contact care with somebody who had chosen not to be vaccinated ?

It was said on 'freedom day' that the relaxation of measures were irreversible.

My biggest gripe so far about the recent measures is that they said they would be making decisions based on data. A new strain appears, we are told to wear masks for a few weeks until we have more information. That's fine. Fast forward 3 weeks and the information coming from all over the place is that this seems to be a milder infection and although people are in hospital with it, the numbers are far less than the Delta variant. It is however alot more transmissible.

The government then make decisions based on it being super transmissible and if it causes the same type of illness that Delta did. Let's impose more restrictions then eh?

They've just cherry picked the worst case scenario (driven by the press I might add) despite scientists all over the world disagreeing with them.

Edit...the data in the last 3 weeks shows cases going up, hospital admissions going down and deaths decreasing week by week. 7500 in hospital with covid. Last time we locked down it was over 40000. So much for going with the data.

I really don ltthink Omnicron is real
Shouldnt be a problem no? what happened to the 4 new hospitals boris was gonna have uo in weeks? wasnt one called nightingale?

Its ok tho someone from virgin investments will be deciding where nhs money goes from now on, but probably not on the sick and needy im guessing.

Lucky we have an abundance of NHS workers being paid a good enough wage so they dont also have to claim universal credit and They will be fully motivated and fit and ready to work more 18hr shifts im sure.

    Foodbanks booming.

    The genocide of carehome residents.

Lockdowns for us but not for them.

Billions in tax stolen/handed out to mates in dodgy contracts.

Freedoms silently taken away under the disguise of yet another scandal....

And Thats not even scratching the surface of how bent this lot are.

Really people? Is this the best we can do? Is any of this acceptable? Anyone voting these lot in again knowing all this need their fukin heads checked.

That's not true, we are already into the realms of distopian ideas. A cashless society being one of them, CCTV being another, cashless tolls and number plate recognition, every where we travel we are now tracked, that is distopian ideolgy.

My only argument with people against this, would be to say it's all due to covid, it's not. We were already on route to distopian, covid was merely something that accelerated that process.

Hence the reasons I would vote the way I would, as mentioned in my much earlier comments, to stall this process of complete distopian before it made any further tracks forward on it.

To suggest it's not George Orwell disopian is a lie. Hence why the Tory backbenchers are revolting, to give this a hardtime, to prevent a plan C being implemented.

Something Labour are all for btw, under the banner as all measures are typed, to protect the public, yeah right, who are they protecting, not me surely, otherwise why have I had four jabs this year!

Hopefully the young will be done too, if it's to protect them in the meantime, then I'd want guarantees, that once everyone has been offered their jabs, that ALL restrictions, every single one of them are lifted.

Its my understanding that this booster is no different to jabs 1&2 right?

As in Its the exact same jab.?

If thats right then then in theory these booster jabs will possibly never end.

Shame weve had such a **** government handling this tbh, their incompetence has cost live already and will cost a lot more because trust is so low now, youve got peeps like me just saying "nah **** off now"

    Just brilliant init

To be fair, plenty have been calling out this sham Tory govt long before Covid.

The whole reason the NHS could become overwhelmed is because the tories have overseen 100,000 vacancies arise, whilst making callous cutbacks to the services that support societies poorest.

Austerity, caused by the rich bankers forced a decade of cuts, but it was a political choice, because at the same time the tories chose to offer tax breaks to their corporate chums and have systematically failed to even address the £119bn that goes missing through tax evasion every year.

I would expect, like the Flu, that eventually people would be offered a booster jab annually.

why would they do that? Most of that tax evasion is done by his ilk, its designed by his ilk, so more of that ilk can take advantage of the loopholes provided. Its a racket.

Not one to be looking to force mandatory vaccination. but mask, test/passport to say you are safe for mass events seems like a good idea. lockdowns, well, they didn't work so well last time so may as well not bother this time.

CCTV has been around for yonks though and along with ANPR, there are arguments that it prevents crime, so I wouldn’t cite those as evidence of a distopian society personally.

I do however recognise the concerns of people who cite facial recognition technology. as being intrusive. They use it widely in China, which definitely does have an authoritarian Govt. The concern is that with western nations trying to keep pace with China, the checks and balances are eroded and the tech is used for nefarious purposes, whilst being sold as being for our safety and protection.

For examples of distopia in the UK currently though, you need look no further than the Crime and Policing bill which effectively criminalises peaceful protest. That IMO is a very dangerous precedent as it basically removes the right to criticise those in power.
