Isnt that what the measures are suggesting ? That If you can’t show a vaccine passport, then you won’t be allowed the freedoms of those that have ?

Any lockdown should be purely for them imo.

The booster was being promoted before Omnicrom blew up.

last I read the booster reduces the risk of Omnicrom by 75%

    convenient and very lucky

    I don’t disagree with that.

I suppose the point I’m highlighting is that those MPs who’ve always been against restrictions, would likely see even more stringent rules brought in because the virus would likely spread far further and wider and cause more problems.

The irony in wanting greater freedoms actually ends up with greater restrictions.

I think there’s a balance to be found in all of this. There needs to be some measures to protect people, for me that’s LTFs which show whether somebody is infectious, which surely has to be the benchmark

The problem for the Govt though, is that they are proposing measures that don’t make any sense for triple jabbed people and they have a huge issue around trust, given their woeful handling of the pandemic from the off, as well as being a bunch of self serving pricks who have flouted their own rules.

    1. Can't see why anyone complains about face masks tbh. Those with medical issues are excused so for everyone else there is no hardship imho.

    2. Don't see how you can force people to be vaccinated. No matter what my view is about those who refuse the vaccinations I can't see how I can agree with them being made to have or face the sack.

    3. I have no issue with being asked to either prove I have had my vaccines or prove I have a negative test result to go anywhere. Under 25s are expected to prove their age on request in bars and all school staff, nursery staff, NHS staff, most (if not all) cabbies, care staff etc have to take a DBS check every 3 years and everytime they change employers so, again I don't really see a difference.

    4. If you are positive you need to isolate but there can not be another lockdown...personally, dont see one happening cos it'll be ignored by too many people.

    Absolutley.

And isolation. This idea that they might be bringing back ten day isolations if you come close to a confirmed infected persons ffs. Why?

And on travelling, if you're not vaccinated, you pay for a PCR test to be allowed out. Otherwise, crack on.

I don't think anyone should be forced into having a vaccine but, if they're not, then be prepared to not travel, isolate and pay for tests to show you haven't got it.

As I understand it, the booster was being promoted because of waning immunity from AstraZeneca / Pfizer

The omicron variant has just accelerated the need to top up that immunity

the fact that a booster can reduce the risk of hospitalisation by 75% seems like a good thing to me

Some folk might see that as a deliberate ploy /conspiracy/govt control etc. For me, that’s just how viruses behave

But it’s not easy to separate out the **** housery from the facts sometimes.

I do agree with the way you have put this. I see exactly where you are coming from and you are for perfectly good reason more hardline than me. I'm just so against the distopia conotations of it all, it just carry's so many fears when we put controls in the hands of government, all governments of the world. If the rules did not apply under the conditions you have wrote (ie not to the vaccinated), then I would probably fall onside with party whips.

I would think most of those with medical issues are in the most vulnerable category, I can't see any reason they can't wear the face shields.

Exactly. It is much fairer and rewards the vaccinated too.

Restrictions on personal freedoms are always going to be unpopular, but I do think there’s a balance to be found in all of this.

The idea of relinquishing your liberties to Govt conjures up distopian ideas of George Orwell etc, but this isn’t necessarily the case.

The problem we have in the UK is a disfunctional govt that nobody trusts. That said they still have to try and manage this with a degree of restrictions that prevent the spread of omicron, whilst also trying to keep people onside.

The vaccine passport thing doesn’t have to be a big deal. You need proof of vaccinations to go to various countries. As ever it’s a shouty minority of entitled people crying about their freedom but staying quiet over far more grave threats to freedom which don’t affect them.

    A personal scenario:

My family are booked for a Christmas Day at a local restaurant. My old dear is in the vulnerable category. She’s had all of her vaccines and she’s been ultra careful about who she mixes with.

I don’t want some anti vaxxer ‘none of this applies to me’ type being able to attend that restaurant and potentially put my old dear at risk.

So for that reason, I am for people having to show a negative test before going to crowded public spaces. (Although I don’t think this is being suggested for pubs and restaurants etc)

My problem is I don't want my kids injected but have left it to them, they both chose not to, I didn't influence them, honestly, but it looks like our holiday options maybe limited if they don't have Spain already won't let in anyone over 12 that hasn't been double jabbed, with more countries about to follow suit it seems.

Went to a concert last week, proof of double jab or negative pcr test to get in one bloke was arguing g he'd been jabbed but hadn't got proof, no way were they letting him in.

The Govt are also trying to push through amendments to the Human Rights act. And we’ve just had the Crime and Policing bill and the nationality and Borders bill go through parliament

All of which have potentially far more impact on people’s rights and freedoms than covid passes.

Nationality and Borders bill yes, but the crime and policing bill and human rights act, very much so.

And yes, mandatory ID for voting, despite almost no abuse of voting using fake ID

Think some with mental health conditions like ASD can really struggle with stuff on or around their face. Can set off severe panic attacks etc.
