I was in the local before the game, chatting to a mag who was waxing lyrical about Howe. I asked if he really thought he was the owners first choice, “yes”, was his reply
I then told him that they are struggling to fill the most important role at the club, a DoF and realistically that should be top of the list. Obviously the argument being that he decides which direction to take, how the club will play their football and also making the change in managers easier, since he should have the same mindset as the previous one, so the players should still fit the system.
I was told I was wrong, the managers appointment is the most important and they will get a DoF to suit the way Howe plays. Christ if he manages to save them, ie get above 3 other **** teams, the moulds for the bronze statue will be getting sand casted before the final whistle of the season

Being deluded can involve the club pulling the wool over your eyes, etc, but these people are full of self delusion created by themselves. Graeme Jones was supposed to be the attack minded power behind the throne and Howe promised a more attacking style. Based on today I can't see any difference from Bruce. Howe setup exactly the same, with a player shuffle, and brought on the same subs Bruce would've.

Seriously, the man brought on Ritchie, Fraser and Murphy when they needed a goal but kept Joelinton deep in midfield.

Wilson looks like he's lost interest which is a massive problem ...

... of all the positions to fill in January it's a goal scoring striker that's the most difficult.

Basically, they are ****ed

Yep. They love a statue that lot. There'll be no room for the bloody lampposts soon.

If this is right, the richest club in the world being priced out of deals???

I honestly don't know much about Howe but I don't think he has a reputation for attracting established players which is certainly what they need right now. Isn't it usually bargains from the lower leagues, loans and fringe PL hopefuls?

The Mags may delude themselves into believing Howe was first choice and that he's the man for the job but, to me, he looks out of his depth and floundering already. He doesn't have the authority and brass neck, to tell the players the truth. His comments yesterday just gave them a free pass to be shyte tbh. They needed an Allardyce to shake everyone up and bring in the right people. Half of Newcastle's remaining games are against the top sides starting with Liverpool, Man City and United. Lose those and it may already be too late.

While Newcastle are busy playing the top sides Norwich have Villa, West Ham, Arsenal and Palace. I'll be surprised if Newcastle aren't nailed to the bottom by the time the window opens and who'll want to sign up to almost certain relegation.

In the meantime I've heard gossip that ASM is asking for a move as he can't settle in the NE because his kids are unhappy here. To be fair he's previously been in Nice, Corsica and Monaco which are all top holiday destinations with great coastlines. Newcastle may be great for stag nights but it's pap for French school kids.

He must still have aspirations for getting at least one French cap.

He won't get that playing MK Dons in the Championship.

Although to be honest, if he goes, the Mags will do a 'Benitez' and claim he wasn't that good.

I don't think he is tbh, needs some serious coaching ...

... he's a black & white Watmore tbh.

"All fart and nee ****e" is the phrase that comes to mind. Mags and commentators come in their pants because he's fast and occasionally beats 2 or 3 men but his end product is 99% poor

Nicked this from one of the RTG good lads without permission, so sue me <laugh>

"When Edward VII'th was promoted with Bournemouth his win rate was 28.9%. He then had seasons of 31.6%, 28.9%, 34.2% and 23.7% averaging 29.5% in his five EPL seasons. The games won over 38 games were 11, 12, 11, 13 and 9. Pro-rata over 26 games that is 7.5, 8.2, 7.5, 8.9 and 6.2.

In order to keep them up I estimate 36 points is enough based on historical situations at this stage.

Any of these permutations works:

W: 8, D: 2 - Win rate 36.4%
W: 7, D: 5 - Win rate 31.8%
W: 6, D: 8 - Win rate 27.3%

Essentially EH has to get the mags to perform at the best level he has ever achieved under the following conditions:

- a defence that has conceded more goals than any of the 3 previous relegated mag teams;
- a squad that where the majority know they will be moved on;
- no evidence of new manager bounce;
- no DoF with a PE teacher, Frank McPartland and a consulting firm advising on signings;
- potentially integrating 5+ players into the side;
- an increasingly dominant top 6;
- of the 22 games left 8 are against the current top 6. 9 if you include a rejuvenated Spurs side;
- likely required wins from 22 from 14 non-top 6 games is 8 (57%) whilst picking up 2 draws from remaining games.

Nothing to me suggests that survival is possible."

Nah, ignore that and give it a listen ...

... it's quite illuminating after 'tea towel day' at SJP, all the excitement has gone and I mean every shred.
Aye, think he's trying to audition to be the next "true Geordie" or whatever than angry fat lad called himself on YouTube
