It’s all this game playing, essentially not voting for someone but voting against someone else, which I think turns some people off, and makes the not voting at all option not only valid, but also potentially meaningful. If, in the event of a 35% turn out, the story isn’t about the Tories clinging on or the Lib Dems snatching a win, but about the people who refused to engage in the process, perhaps we will see some changes.
Of course I’m sure that many people who don’t vote really can’t be bothered, but some of us (like Ubes and myself, for different reasons) make a positive decision not to play the game, which is not do say that we are not engaged or don’t have opinions with what is happening in the country, world etc etc.
