Don't see why you couldn't single out a worldwide pandemic, where in the UK, over 90% of Covid victims taking up valuable hospital beds are unvaccinated

This isn't true Goldie. It's more like 36% ... In England anyway. I don't know about the other countries of the UK, but I'd imagine it will be similar. There maybe some confusion because 90% of the population are vaccinated.

Anyone thinking of coming to Ireland for Christmas will have to take a daily antigen test for 5 consecutive days after arriving in the country....... We have 6 known cases of the Omicrom variant.......

    Read something hugely worrying.

Omricon is taking hold in UK, which is one, if not the most highly vaccinated country in Europe.

Hugely infectious but we are protected from serious disease and death by vaccinateion mostly.

What will it do..in countries far less vaccinated

This could really be bad in the 3rd world

Hmm, it's difficult to know who to believe Nines. I was quoting The Sunday Times from last week. They're not always reliable. On the other hand, Full Facts is a charity funded largely by Google and Facebook, which raises alarm bells in me. I'll do some more digging. It's a really important fact to be right about.

For here let’s keep looking at the hospitalisation levels, which are stable. Deaths, sadly have been running at over 100 a day for months, we seem to have turned a blind eye to this. I suppose it’s much lower than deaths from other things.

With a huge rise in cases you would assume that, even if the disease is ‘milder’ (we can hope, there is no evidence of this) there will be a proportionate rise in hospitalisations and deaths, which means NHS meltdown etc etc

Getting 3rd doses into people as soon as possible has to be top priority. My kids, double jabbed and in their twenties, would go tomorrow (more than 3 months since second jab) but as it stands they won’t get done until January. Unless they turn into hermits (not going to happen) it’s almost inevitable that they will catch it. Bloke on the news said that if one infected person is in a pub with 100 non infected, up to 50 could catch it. While we don’t know the seriousness it seems to make sense to go back into full lockdown, but we can’t afford to, and a lot of people would just go mad at the idea. I’m going to think very carefully about pubs, and haven’t bought my train ticket for the Swansea match yet….

As you say everything will be exponentially worse in places with low vaccination levels.

    What a ****ing nightmare.

    Had the booster yesterday (moderna).
    Felt ok all day.
Today though, headache, tiredness, shivers and my arm feels like Tyson Fury has whacked it repeatedly.

It’s potent stuff, everyone I know who has had it, including me, has had a reaction.

The good news is that AZ, AZ, Moderna was the best performing combination…….until this pesky new thing came along. I’m assuming that the 75% protection from symptomatic disease for those who have had the third dose holds true for all combinations of vaccine.

Remember it takes two weeks for full effect to kick in.

I liked that Col but no because you are suffering mate. I got offered the booster 2 weeks ago, my mrs about 4 weeks ago. Neither of us have booked it yet. She hasnt due to her condition worsening after the 2 initial shots to the point she is on daily blood thinners now. Myself due to a constant pain in my jabbed shoulder from shot 1 which has never gone away. Both reported on the yellow card. Heres the thing for us, in simple terms my wifes immune system does the opposite of a normal persons, it attacks itself causing the myelin sheath to damage protecting the nerves in her brain which in turn scar, causing more symptoms. Its a tricky situation for some.

Channel 4 just shown a vicious documentary on Pfizer and it’s approach to selling its vaccine. I didn’t see it all so can’t give a comprehensive response, but it seemed pretty damning, also pretty naive. Pfizer are undoubtedly making huge gross profits from this product, like tens of billions, and are milking it for everything they can. They don’t want the pandemic to end.

But the product is good, they are a commercial concern, it’s not a popularity contest etc etc. AZ took the moral high road and have suffered for it. The state sponsored Russian and Chinese vaccines…well would you want one?

One of the criticisms was that the U.K. is paying more than any other country for the Pfizer product and that the arbitration mechanism built into the contract does not involve a British court. Strikes me this is a factor of bargaining power, and the fact that we wanted lots of doses very quickly.

I had the Moderna yesterday as well Col, I described my arm as being punched by Mike Tyson. I can barely lift it above my ribs. I've no tiredness or headaches but I'm freezing and can't get warm. I had no reaction whatsoever to the first two. ( AZ, AZ. )

The computer generates the booster. For me it was the Moderna, the majority where I had it seemed to get the Pfizer. Astra Zeneca for whatever reason aren't doing the boosters.

There are two different things going on at the moment

We have a third vaccine...which is a third jab of what you have had before. Usually given to the immune suppressed. It is to promote the basic response in people who are not able to promote the initial response well . I think they will get a booster offered in a few months.

But healthy people are offered a booster, which is a different vaccine as their 3rd shot.. which should give a more robust response. So I had two astrazenecas and then a Moderna.

On the whole...you do not get a choice.

32,000 deaths by New Year……crazy stuff or just scaremongering, either way, a real worry.
Omicron has now been sequenced in HALF of U.S. states

Thats the hope for the immune supressed, infact the vaccine may do very little or infact have a worse effect. Studies are still ongoing in this field. These vaccines are designed for a normal functioning immune system.
