Enjoyable open game. Deserved a point, but helped by the inept referee. We were not quite on it second half but it keeps us away from the relegation zone favourites.

"In one v one situations Nathan (Baxter)'s really good and he showed his calmness today, obviously with that save from Swift.
"But apart from that and obviously the goal they scored on the stroke of half-time, I thought we could have been out of sight with the chances we had in the final third.
"I said to the boys 'it's the first time in four games we've been 1-0 down - can we show people what we're about in the second half?'
"We did that with a great strike from Mallik and then we had to show real grit and determination, particularly when they're raining balls in on top of Andy Carroll and it is difficult because he's strong."

Didn’t deserve to be 1-0 down at half-time. Some of the moves we put together were sumptuous, especially in first half. Wilks wasn’t brilliant, his miss was woeful, but he looked as though he was putting in more effort, and well done for shooting early for the goal and catching the keeper unawares. Back three and Baxter did really well, as did whole team, with only Longman misfiring slightly.
Certainly think we were happy with a draw at the end of that and maybe fortunate that at least one of the 3 penalty claims wasn't awarded, but got to give the ref a bit of credit for not just thinking . 'I've turned down 2 so I'll give them the next one.'
Love the way the defenders and midfield on this team put their bodies on the line and give it 100% throughout. Front 2 still the weakest part of the team, but I swear I saw Malik Wilks run back 30 yards and win a tackle after he'd lost the ball today. Hopefully the goal will be a turning point for him.

Being honest, Wilks got lucky. It wasn't even a great shot, straight down the middle at the keeper. I'd guess he was aiming for a corner. It was a howler from their keeper.
Other than that fortuitous strike, he did next to **** all yet again. His touch and passing was for the most part dreadful. Magennis was working his rocks off once again, great shift including helping out the defence. Wilks's work ethic was non-existent. I still believe there's a player in there (as the saying goes) but god knows what's happening with him.
Maybe McCann's told him that he's our Messi and doesn't have to graft; let the others do the work and you just wait for your opportunities to strike? Possible?

Listen, I’m not gonna defend his performances recently because they do stick out as being poor compared to the rest of the team but I don’t think Wilks’ issue is lack of effort. I’ve seen him track back and try to win the ball back immediately after losing it like today several times this season. His problem is that he plays with his back to the opposition a lot and his first touch needs serious improvement. Too often he waits for the ball to be played to feet, backs into his marker then tries to turn. I think his game would improve massively if made runs in behind defenders instead. Whenever the ball is played to him, it slows the tempo of the game down and we lose our momentum.

Shota was a decent striker in his day. Can’t imagine he’ll be pleased with Wilks’ general play.
