Very surprised by this. I bet he is too. Certainly not in the Evans era anymore!

There is a one line story. I expect they will promote it when they have written the article.

I really wanted this appointment to work. I thought Cook had the right credentials and experience to get us promoted. I sympathised with the issues he faced last season, coming into a club that was poorly run and had players clearly not putting in the effort. He was given a massive amount of scope and resource to bring in the players he wanted over the summer. Cook was integral in implementing the wholesale changes in playing personnel during the summer. It was also Cook that picked the coaching staff he wanted, almost all of whom demonstrably lacked the sufficient experience to effectively coach first team players.

Ultimately, Cook has been judged on results and I don’t think there can be many complaints. The owners are clearly ambitious, have spent a lot of money, and expect us to be competing for the top six places. I’d have liked to have given him a second transfer window and the season to try and achieve promotion. The owners clearly thought differently. This clearly isn’t going to be like the Marcus Evans era and helps to ensure some goodwill and a more positive atmosphere in the “Pack out Portman Road” games, and the Sunderland game which the Americans will be attending.

Surprised at this, maybe McGreal was always a contingency plan?

But thought Cook would have had another window, maybe they feared another 11 player shopping list following recent comments.

I am not surprised and suspected this might happen. Awful run of results and a team of mostly talented individuals not playing as a team. Feel sorry for PC but it wasnt to be.

Who on earth have they eyed up?

Who would be an Ipswich supporter in this rollercoaster season!

I think I am in a unique position here because I thought we were performing a lot BETTER than I expected after a couple of games. I thought it would be an absolute bloodbath of a season and that we were in danger of League Two football.

Have to say whilst Paul Cook's reign was really disappointing the action the club has taken today does worry me.

There's very few managers out there with as good a record as Cook in this division, especially ones who play front foot football. To back him 100% in the summer and change things a few months in does disappoint me. I get the feeling Ashton is monopolising his influence as we're led to believe the next ipswich manager will be a coach not a manager and putting 2+2 together there have been some footballing decisions which appear to have been taken by the club (Ashton) rather than the manager. I've seen Norwoods tweet which seems to suggest Cook and Norwood got on well together, we have heard it was a club decision.

It appears we've gone from the first team manager basically doing everything at the club under ME without any backroom staff to having a huge backroom staff (Ashtons team) with a manager who doesn't have a say over many things. This does concern me.

Cook's record and decisions he has made have been very very poor but to not give him more than 1 transfer window given his record. I honestly don't think we could do better.

Well if Mark Ashton doesn’t get it right by next season I don’t reckon he will be around for long either.

What Paul Cook told James Norwood and the truth of it might be two different things, by the way. So might the truth and Norwood’s tweets.

Yeah!According to Ashton “At this moment, there is no one lined up to replace Paul. There will be an extensive search to find the best replacement for the club. I will communicate more to the media and our supporters on Monday.”

Not sure I entirely believe this. What I find incredible is that they seemingly backed Cook when they came in,gave him enough rope in the transfer window to,apparently, sign whoever he wanted but not enough time to see things through.I’m just surprised they didn’t want to appoint their own man from the outset.Whoever comes in will presumably have to largely work with the existing squad, give or take some tweaking in January.

    Interesting times!

He was definitely their own man. The takeover was ongoing for well over a year.

All the nonsense about that growth graph at the start of the season!

We need another turnover of players in January. We don’t have a single decent forward or ‘keeper on the books yet.

This has the feel of an Everton scenario - big investors who really don't know who they want to manage the club but still expect instant results.

Maybe Steve Bruce or Ryan Lowe would be a good appointment at this stage - who knows - just seems a bit all up in the air at the moment.
