It won’t last 20 years as far as humans are concerned if we don’t do something now. A rise of 1.5C is generally seen as the most that humanity could cope with without suffering widespread economic and social upheaval. Global warming is dangerously close to spiralling out of control, a U.N. climate panel said in a landmark report in August warning the world is already certain to face further climate disruptions for decades, if not centuries, to come. Humans are "unequivocally" to blame says the report from the scientists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Rapid action to cut greenhouse gas emissions could limit some impacts, but others are now locked in. Unless immediate, rapid and large-scale action is taken to reduce emissions, the report says, the average global temperature is likely to reach or cross the 1.5-degree Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) warming threshold within 20 years. You fancy being alive in 20 years CC?
People need to realise we are talking about the kind of lives that they and their children and their grandchildren are going to be able to live. This is not an issue about the Planet in 100 years. It’s an issue about the Planet in 20 years.
Because I'm alive and I like feeling well. The world's gonna end? So what? Like seriously it doesn't matter at all.
This isnt going to lead to the end of the planet. It will lose a few species and then a few more will pop up to replace them. The biggest impact will be on us and that impact might go a long way to stop greenhouse gas emissions by reducing population growth. The reason the politicians are worried about it is that they know it will lead to large scale social unrest as pressure on land areas becomes higher and populations living in low lying areas need to re-locate and in some cases they will have nowhere to go.
I'm not selfish I just don't think only about humans. I've concluded the sooner the human species dies out the better..
Probably should have been clearer but not suggesting the Planet will end. The Planet has probably a billion or two’s worth of years left in it. But the effects will, on humans, be much greater than reduction in population growth and large scale social unrest. Not saying that that’s what you’re suggesting, but people have to realise just how serious and important this issue is in their lifetime. A WHO article sets some of it out. https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/climate-change-and-health To paraphrase Bob Geldof we need to do something now.
Humans have lived on Earth for 0.000001% of Earths history we are just a little tiny smidgen part of the history of Earth. It survived well when we werent here it will survive until our star the Sun becomes a dead star. The population has been growing for centuries and centuries but from 60's onwards we have been living far longer so we need to get rid of anyone over 55. PS. Btw Im 51.
I didn't say lazy. I said lazy and feckless Yes politians can take some of the responsibility but this is the whole human race at fault. Myself included
