I would love to think you are right mate. However he got us off to a tremendous start to the season, despite what many called a late transfer activity, but I dont think he was lauded then. What he managed last year with what I think was the worst bunch of players in all my years and no lauding. I think for some fans he will never be accepted. Hate to say it, but I have seen posts at times that make me remember thr Kinnear and Wise era in that they were judged not on ability but where they came from and how they talked.
A team competing in a division and not hoping to go up is plain daft Talking about a 5 year plan is just a way of buying time If we continue to play poorly the manager will go, he has to.
There was a fear factor in those days which has long gone - if you fell out with the manager, you were moving on soon enough, not him. Now it's the other way round.
He did. Do you think Cirkin and Huggins came for free? Do you think Alves, Broadhead and Doyle are playing for free? Did Neil and Embleton get wage rises? Do we have an obligation to buy Hoffmann and Dajaku in the summer?
Loved Keano. He was perfect for us at the time. Lifted the club off it's knees at the start of the Drumaville era. It worked primarily because every member of the consortium idolised Keane. "What Roy wants, Roy gets" was one of the lines that came out at the time. That all changed when Short invested and started questioning Keane and the Drumaville lot faded into the background
All of this is true but the objective is promotion this season. Make no mistake about it. The model that is being used now means that all of your words can happen but if the head coach isn't cutting it, a new one can come in and cause minimal disruption.
None of this is news though. We've known this from the start. Of course promotion is the objective, but I think the point people are making is that, due to having a long term plan in place, not achieving promotion won't be catastrophic. As it clearly was under Donald.
I disagree promotion is vital Or there is no moving on we would have to start again next season with a list of people who can give us promotion Remember next year there will be a different group of teams pushing for promotion We can’t keep on going like this we must get promotion Unless your happy been a third rate team with a 5 year plan pushing for promotion in to the second tear
Its only vital for us as fans. If the club can financially support another promotion push, it doesn't really matter when we go up if you're the owner. It only becomes an issue if, financially, we can't fund a team good enough to go up next season.
And that’s eaten into the 5 year plan so do we now extend the plan to allow us to continue to be a third rate club
On the back of that how many season card holders renewed or returned from a break this year with the expectation of promotion, not to mention the people who renewed just simply because lockdown was a nightmare and wanted to get back to some type of normality. If we don’t go up this year or make a really good go of it the season card holders will drop…therefore revenue. It simply has to be a priority to get out of this league.
Season card renewal might well be a consideration but you would have thought that a well run club wouldn't be betting on promotion in one particular season. If its absolutely vital for the plan and for the future of the club that we're promoted this season we haven't moved on from Donald and Methven. Personally, I don't believe that KLD will be that short sighted.
It will be though as that's the objective. The plan is the plan and it's sustainability with a focus on youth. If we don't go up, so much of the feel good factor will be lost, make no mistake about it.
Bang on. Struggling to comprehend a mindset where people think it's not vital that we don't get out of this league this season like.
If that's the case, then the owner is no better than Donald and Methven. Any serious club owner will have contingency plans in place if we don't go up. All of the noises that have been made so far, suggest that KLD is a serious owner.
