I know Engerlund have had some players drop out but there must be so many foreign players in the Prem for them to go that far down.

FGR which is about 20 minutes from me, have a Gambian and a Jamaican international playing for them and both countries have World Cup qualifiers this week. Both excellent players by the way. With Cheltenham already in League One and FGR looking likely to make it too, it could see the return of what is known in these parts of El Glosico when the two teams meet. Of course, if we get relegated, we'll be playing both. You're all invited for tea as I'm just about equidistant from both.
Interesting Clingo. I wonder if these two played in the FA Cup match (I haven't checked) and if not does the call up only apply to the league?
Hi Clingo - I'll digress for a moment. My father was from Cheltenham, and although my mother was Welsh and born in Pontypridd, her parents lived in Lower Tuffley in Gloucester (Randwick Road?) for a long time back in the 50's/60's. Also my brother moved back to the area to Charlton Kings in Cheltenham before he sadly passed away. Haven't been across that way to visit for many a year now but do have vague recollections of the area as a kid being taken up there to see my grandparents. Memories as a sprog included being taken reguarly to a couple of long established cafes. One was called "The Clock" on a shop corner I think in Cheltenham town center, and the other was "Smokey Joes" - do they still exist, or am I halucinating (again)?..........
Hey sparkey. I'm not overly familiar with all of Cheltenham but I know that the Clock Tower restaurant in Charlton Kings is still there and that Smokey Joe's is now an American bar. I have to say I don't have recollections of either being cafes but I've only been here for about 17 years. Yep I know Randwick Road and Randwick Park and both just a couple of miles away.
Many thanks for that clingo - but I'm going back a lot (lot ) further than 17 years. I don't think that Clock Tower place in Charlton Kings is the original "Clock" cafe which was definitely in the town centre, but I've got a feeling that Smokey Joes cafe might well have been the forerunner of that American Bar you mention. Been a long time - cheers.
It's interesting that you remember a clock in Cheltenham as the Regency Arcade is home to the "Wishing Fish Clock" which is the largest mechanical clock in the world. But that's only been there since 1985 ish. Of course, like many large town centres, Cheltenham has undergone significant changes over the years but I will talk to some locals who may have a better idea regarding your clock.
Thanks clingo - I'd appreciate any info just out of curiosity. For the record, it was definitely called "The Clock" (restaurant or cafe?). It was also in the town somewhere on a corner I think, and amongst other shops from memory. I'm talking here of very late 50s through the 60's.
Ponty eh. Not a bad part of the world. Spent more nights in Cheltenham than I care to admit over a 3 or 4 year period. Ironically I moved from Bristol to Cheshire to work for a company who put me on a contract that required all that time in Cheltenham. Had the food guide for Cheltenham and ticked off about 50 of the 112 eateries. Quite a few were a bit more expensive than my expenses would allow (unless one of the directors was in town). Don't recall either of the venues you mention.
