She was such a talented artist. Taken way before her time.

Bugz in the attic did a wicked refix of this. You know them bro ? From your endz Ladbroke Grove. Mate of mine Darren Benjamin is part of that Bugz collective.

Got round to watching some of this guy stuff again the last few days, teaches a lot of licks across four separate videos. I just then pick out any licks I like across the four vids, mainly around the bb box which for me is from the ninth fret up (up meaning 9 to 17).

Mainly this one at the moment, within the A minor pentatonic 12-15 (inc half steps) etc...

    Love those minor chords.

You ever listen to any blue note jazz stuff.

Both in Blues and Jazz, there's something about the way those blue/minor chords create a melancholic but uplifting vibe.

No, haven't listened to that stuff.

I listened to three of those vids so far, just got the fourth one to go, half the time it's cutting through all the chat, but each video was a progress/improvement on the previous.

I only take out uplifting stuff but not in the overly happy sense, so yes, probably better described a melancholic, but not depressing or sad either, hmmm sort of hard to explain really, I just follow my brain lol.

I take out what I like and to see if I can stitch it in with other stuff. Suppose it's like building blocks of the scale, without the laborious task of learning scales.

Thats the beauty of the blues and blue note jazz. That juxtaposition of minor notes creating a melancholic but uplifting vibe. Musically, that dynamic often happens when you set a minor chord against a major chord.

You find this all over in jazz, but good example of this is Art Blakey’s A chant for Bu. Listen to the first few bars, the way the bass line and then the horns play a minor chord and the juxtapose it with a half note up to play a major chord. You don’t realise the first key is a blue note until it’s paired against the major key.

    simple, but brilliant.

Hip Hop roots would be right up my street.

Did you see that short Rick Rubin doc I posted the other day ?

I knew him from Def Jam, but I had no idea he went on to produce the Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash amongst others <yikes>

    Beastie Boys just on.

It did go back to '79 with Sugarhill Gang as original pioneers, Curtis Blow etc.

First one was couple of weeks back, new romantics and such like.

This is my school era and was bloody magical. The 90's just picked up and ran with it.

I remember being at school and being into AC/DC, The Smiths, Grandmaster Flash, Van Halen, Genesis, Floyd, Joy Division, Culture Club, Kate Bush and Human League all the same time.

    Amazing stuff.
