I find it quite interesting that as soon as Conte goes to spurs boom nufc take option 2?

Yeah, I suspect they were sounding out the big dogs, Conte, Ten Hag, probably Rafa too, but were just being rebuffed - totally understandably - until they got to Fonseca, Howe, Emery, etc.

Personally I'm ecstatic if it's Emery. Only 49, been successful at small clubs, had a stint at one of the biggest, had a fantastic start at Arsenal (11 game winning streak) before hitting a sticky patch - he's way better than we could've envisaged a month ago.

@cronemeister Emery has a better track record than Fonseca, is more 'solid' and is 14 years younger than Favre.

Seems likely to have been the case... I'm assuming that of course, but I suspect they cast the net right out there.

Emery has distanced himself though when asked about it and the way he was talking, its like he's not even had an approach. Mind most of them are like the journos and couldn't lie straight in bed.

Have to say I think he'd be a cracking appointment. He likes a high line and an aggressive press too which we are miles away from at present. I looked at us on Saturday and the entire team including Wilson were in our defensive third. Jones wasn't even attempting to tell them to come out and at least have an out ball.

Jones is FA schooled, and it shows. Clueless.

I think Emery would be a great appointment. PL experience and likes to give games a go.

Also think at this point we can discount any out of work managers. They would already be in by now if we wanted them I'm sure just based on the speed of the likely Conte appointment

All sounds good.

Btw, its worth noting that Arteta has had a few sticky patches at Arsenal and the difference was they didnt just sack the man. Unai was up against it whenever they lost.

I think this appointment shows ambition and vision.

To be honest I know nothing about Emery, Fonseca or Favre other than a look at Wiki.
They all seem to have had their ups and downs. Emery sacked at Arsenal and Moscow and if some are to be believed could be on the current sack list.
However I think they all seem significantly better than Bruce and will get my support. They are likely to have a director of football working with them and support and money from above unlike what Ashley provided mostly.
We need a new manager in now so hopefully it seems like this week it’s happening. I hope they have at least some influence in the weekends team selection.

Everybody has a blip, mate, and we're 19th so we have no ability to go and get those without a blemish - Ten Hag, Nagelsman, Rose, Guardiola, Conte, etc.

Spartak was a weird one, but his subsequent success at Sevilla was incredible, particularly in Europe and on a small budget. He did what was expected bar CL success at PSG - who of course haven't won the CL with either Tuchel or Poch, so not exactly and easy feat.

Arsenal he had a massive up, winning 11 on the bounce, then went 7 without a win and was binned. Arteta has had worse runs, but Arsenal seem more aware of where they are these days. If they'd not sacked Emery, they'd be in a better place by now.

Honestly, I think it's a sensational signing. Global name, trophies galore, point to prove, young and modern manager. Absolutely sensational. @Roy Munson was right, they wanted to get it absolutely spot on and this is absolutely spot on.

Plus it's not Bruce, it's not Rafa, it's not Lamapard, Terry, Gerrard or Howe. He is 100% the best 'available' manager for our current plight, with PL experience thrown in to boot. Brilliant stuff, I'm so excited.

1/5 on with the bookies. Howay the lads.

I'd be ecstatic with Emery.....3/4 weeks after a take over and someone like that walks through the door....why would we complain, prem experience, European experience, will want to show Arsenal they were wrong to get rid!!

I think expectations need to be reigned in a bit, this is the first step on the road to greatness and if Emery is that first step.....great appointment in my eyes (which counts for absolutely nothing!)

Its a ****ing statement of intent too: you’re not getting Emery if you’re making up the numbers.

Amazing, what a day!
