There are so many rabbits running wild though seems daft not to eat them, I used to sell loads to a local butcher.
That tastes fine though, don't want them bred for it but might as well use it when the animal is of no use.
I agree, they literally breed like ... rabbits. The issue for supermarkets though, is that they want cheap meat as consumer demand is for low prices. If they have to pay a gamekeeper to go around shooting/trapping rabbits vs farming them in a pen, then they'd opt for the cheaper option. But like you say, you can get good game meat from a decent butcher. So I'd rather see it kept out of the clutches of the price driven competition that operates in the big supermarkets.
My local gets them in regularly. They're a pest. Used to shoot them and net them using ferrets when I was younger. Ferrets are great pets.
I think wild rabbits can breed virtually every month, and considering they have large litters, that's one hell of a population growth, if not controlled by local fox populations.
I used to drop off about 20 for a local butcher one a week or fortnight and he'd pay me £1 per bunny, good beer money back in the day.
Myxomatosis. ****in horrible thing. Makes the poor bastards blind. They're a bugger to kill too. Puss flying everywhere when you kill them with a big stick.
Lots of places in Europe will serve you Steak from horsemeat. Unless is actually says Beef, then assume it isn't
Another week, more Yorkshire puds. This time with slow braised shin of beef. one less egg this week so not as floppy as last week.
