He has been fairly complementary to us to be fair, the only irritating thing he's done is declare his love for Matt Taylor
To be honest hes bein very complementary yes. Slating Chaplow for being on left wing though hes doing ok!
Wouldn't mind if it every member of the Redknapp family was commenting on it...frustrating that the rights mean that they apparently can't broadcast it online, and I'm not clever enough to figure out away around that.
Unfortunately, it's blather about cricket for me, with an occasional interruption to tell me that the game commentary isn't available owing to rights restrictions. I'm in Canada, which also means no Saints Player unless/until I can prevail on my credit card company to allow me to make purchases in foreign currency.
You know what..? It isn't. Solent's commentary team is excellent. And yes, I include Whispering Dave in that.
I kinda like Steve Claridge. I've never heard him voice a negative opinion about Saints, and always seems pretty complimentary.
I think the Radio Solent commentary team do a great job. Having used Saints player to listen in to other local radio commentaries they are not up to Solent standard - and i definitely include Dave Merringtons contributions in that comment!
Yep, they are brilliant. Love the Saints bias. I remember Tony Husband, when he used to sound like he'd rather the opposition scored. He was hopeless. Now I can't make up my mind who's better Kris Temple or Adam Blackmore. Temple is clearer, with his delivery, but Blackmore just gets really excited and his commentary speeds up, as his voice rises to fever pitch. And of course, there's Dave.
I listened to one of the other local commentaries for Doncaster v Leeds last Friday and I could not believe the amateur jingoistic nonsense that they were spouting. All you could hear at times was the co-commentator shouting and groaning! Makes you realise how good radio solent is. Lets try and keep it or good old Dave Cameron will prob try and close or sell it.
To be fair, it was very interesting hearing the opinion of the genuinely neutral commentator on 5 Live Extra, as he obviously didn't know much about Saints apart from what he'd researched before the game. He was very impressed with most aspects of the team, and felt that we definitely deserved to be where we are at the top of the League. And even Steve Claridge was hard to fault in his comments! Normally the Solent commentary (through Saints Player) is the only live feed on a Saints game, so I took the chance to compare it with something else. I have to agree that Adam/Kris and Dave are like a comfy old pair of slippers and you just feel right at home with them, but it was good to hear things from a different perspective last night.
what made me laugh most was Claridge's lack of knowledge on football. Commentator: Man Utd 2-0 up but Vidic has been sent off. Claridge: Ooh they'll miss him Commentator: Miss him? Clargidge: Yes its the Manchester Derby this weekend and they could've done with him Commentator: Err He won't miss that. He will miss the next Champions League game Claridge: Is that how it works? So they're seperate then? Commentator and the world
This is where I find Solent to be hugely superior to Radio 5 LIVE/EXTRA/WHATEVER, and that is, where Radio 5 gets their information about Man U wrong, Radio Solent won't mention them at all. And that's exactly how I want it. Don't get me wrong, I like Radio 5. But they're concentrating on the wrong team, i.e. someone elses.
I like the radio solent commentary, and relly value Dave Merringtons input. I like the fact that they are saints through and through. Merrington is great with the younger listeneres hwn they call in.
