Strange, we were talking about this on Saturday - Deano, Ashbee, Waggy and Carter were the main ones mentioned. I said, as nobody can decide, how about a statue of Ebenezer Cob Morley - a man from Hull who wrote the rules of football and co-founded the FA. It'd soon dispell any 'rugby town' jibes - it'd be like saying 'Welcome to Hull - we created football!'
And what about Duffen? What he did for (to?) the club should not be overlooked. I'm thinking a sculpture of a large chequebook done in solid gold. The words Pay: An Average Footballer ã What his agent asks for should be inlaid.
I was going to mention Ebenezer Cob Morley. Only in Hull could you have someone that had a huge influence on creating Association Football and yet not only do we not gloat to the rest of the world about it, most of the Hull population have probably never head of him. I'm sure he also scored the first goal in the first competitive match. We should have statues of Deano (Hull lad scored goal that took us to the Premiership) Waggy & Chillo (all time top goal scorer), Raitch Carter (Famous player manager won Div 3 N title) and Ebenezer Cob Morley (for above) at various approaches to the KC. Hull has to start being proud of itself because no one else is going to do it for us!
cityhull..... agree with the last part. But as our elected reps on the council can't find their, collective, arse with both their, collective, hands... plus, the only money available for anything will be earmarked by them to pay themselves expenses..... it won't happen this side of 2050!! And only once you have a leader of the council, born and bred in this great City...........NOT ****ing Middlesbrough!!!!
someone might have an old blanketty blank checque book and pencil trophy that would do the job with a respray. was anyone on here ever on blankety blank?
ashbees yaovil goal merely confirmed that we would finish in an automatic playoff place that season. it was the 45th game of the season and the fact we finished 7 points ahead of the playoff teams make it no more or less important than many of the other 81 goals that season. winning goals were scored by green elliott forrester elliott walters burgess etc on top of goals by plenty of others while musselwhite myhill dawson whittle delaney were stopping goals at the other end whith others making or stopping goals in the middle. all ashbees goal did was confirm the auto place not start anything and if it hadnt been scored and we'd lost the next game we wuold have still got 2nd place. it was a small though memorable brick in a whole wall of that season not a start and not a finish.
