    Date Tues 28 / 09 / 21

    KO 20 : 00

    Venue Estádio do Dragão

    TV BT

After the quiet uneventful draw against Brentford the focus now switches back to the CL with an away tie at Porto who drew their opening group game with A Madrid .Our record against Porto is 4-2-0 with 16 goals to their 3 . The last meeting was in the QF in 2018/19 which resulted in an aggregate 6 - 1 win with an emphatic 1-4 win in the away leg

I expected changes but after the shambles today i’m certain there will be but am more confused who as some of the “rotation” players are possibly moving up the pecking order in particular Tsimikas if only for his crossing including the left wing corners .

At this moment everyone is available apart from Thiago .

    PL 4-2-0

    CL 1-0-0

    LC 1-0-0

    Midfield was pathetic today.

Never covered the defensive duties and left cbs pull.put wide so the back stick was over loaded.

Need control v Porto or we will get run put of town.

I really want him to get one now.
Though I'd rather Mané bagged a couple to help him get his confidence back.

Seriously though. Salah and Mane shouldn't even be playing midweek. Play our U12s and keep everyone else fresh for City.

I taste blood... It's blue blood... Qualifying from UEFA can wait another week.

I'm scared. Especially if we have the same midfield again. We literally have no LCM's anymore so I expect to see another imbalanced midfield.

Dare I say it, but maybe Milner is the next best option at LCM after Thiago and Naby.

mate, dont be ashamed of being right. he is clearly the best option.

jones is a left winger learning the position.

However you've named 3 and i added 1 so having 4 for 1 slot is not too bad ;) this is not a transfer issue.

I'm not sure pal. Thiago and Naby are great options but far too unreliable. Thiago is world class so I wouldn't be against letting Naby go for someone more reliable. Jones has potential but we need to put him a role where he can thrive. We really can't afford to have passengers in midfield (from a defensive aspect). And Milner isn't a great CM option (unless coming on for the last 10 mins - something I am very surprised didn't happen vs Brentford).

As many have pointed out previously - the issue in midfield isn't the quantity but it's the quality.

Naby is not a great option just OK , as has been shown in his time with us , and that is without taking into account his constant injury breaks .

It's hard to believe but he is one of the best pressers in the team and also most progressive. In terms of winning the ball back and getting us up the pitch, he's brilliant.

The issue isn't his quality, it's his injuries.

Don't get me wrong, Thiago is levels above pretty much all of our midfielders. But Naby is a very solid option at LCM.

they aint fit so theres not option for this game so milner is the best option this midweek.

I'd agree that milner as a winger will end up going too wide at times but TBH he dominated the palace game form RB so clearly he's more than a 10 minute option.

I'd also agree though that if we'd put him on v Brentford that left side would have been shut off. not one ball would have come in and the CBS would not have been drawn over leaving trent with guys all over him.

On jones. a 20 year old left winger playing CM like elliott needs time and patience to develop. He have to support his development over time as he will improve massively. The reality is plays can be taught the shape and positioning but they have to embrace it and i think jones gets shifted about too much.

I'd like to see him locked to LCM for the rest of season personally but then I am not klopp and he will probabaly prove that wrong. V preston he should not plany anywhere but LCM with Morton now at DCM (what a display form the 18 year old eh)
