What are the most impressive goals?

People seem to be going mad over the Rooney goal yesterday, and saying what an amazing goal it was, maybe I'm just a cynic, but I just can't see it that way.

Admittedly, it was a very difficult move to get his leg up to meet the ball, but there can have been very little control on the ball, the fact that it went in is down to luck surely, it could just have easily ballooned over the bar.

When you compare that goal to, say, a well placed free kick, where the player bends the ball, despite all of the various factors and beyond the reach of the keeper into the top corner, is that not a better goal?

Like I say, I'm not criticising the goal or saying I don't enjoy seeing an overhead kick - but are they really better than more technical goals?

look.. it's the timing.. the difference between 4 and 7 points in front of their rivals plus it was against Man City who were playing well and the score was 1-1.. in another match 3-0 up it was probably just a great goal but if they win the league it will be the defining moment..

Windass was a very special player too in his own right.. his goals against Cardiff near the end of one season and then Bristol City the next.. special because of the context secondary the execution..

I liked Yakubu's goal just as much yesterday, great ball juggling then volley into the net.

my favourite type of goals personally are where they are curled into the top corner from outside the box.
cant get onto youtube on here but both goals in the 2002 fa cup final parlour and lljunberg I think both the types I mean.

Rooney's was a miskick. Just like Van Persie's volley against Charlton a few years ago, it hit his shin. Trevor Sinclair's has to be the best overhead kick.

Although I don't think that rooneys goal was anything that special, I have to argue that overhead kicks are technically brilliant. The timing of it, the leap, the way you have to shape your body and the fact that you're kicking it whilst your in the air make the goals brilliant. Rooneys wasn't as good as say dean ashtons and although they're not hard to do, overhead kicks are superb.

I very much doubt that. Maybe trying to emulate Dean Ashtons against man u a couple of years back?

Same. It was brilliant the way he controlled, juggled and smashed it in!

    Like olofinjana's against stoke?

As effective as it is, Crouch still looks like a Giraffe falling over backwards.

Unless he's clambering all over someone, then he'll nod it in every time.

You can't beat an unstoppable volley, just like the already mentioned Windass screamer. Think that kid Rooney once scored a half decent one past newcastle, he might make a name for himself. Koren's effort on saturday would've been nice if it went in.

Anyone remember Gavin Gordon's overhead kick? Only one I ever remember being scored by a City player!
