Top blokeWonder what the last 25 years would have been like had Quinny not signed. Cracking player and fella.
Thought he was a hell of a signing at the time. A totally underrated striker with a decent touch and could bring other people into the game. Pity he got injured that season think he would've kept us up
“Who the **** is he?” “WATFORD ****ING RESERVE?” “Ex right back? And he’s playing up front???? He’ll be ****”Remember my impressions at the time perfectly.
Limited striker.
Good in the air, moderate on the deck.
Injury prone. (This got proven quite quickly).
And if you think this was off the mark, my first impressiions of SKP, when we signed him, were much worse.

I heard never heard of Kevin Phillips when we signed him... I watched him for the first time draw a blank against Ajax but I vividly remember getting home as fast as I could from that game to tell my Grandad about this brilliant new forward we had signed and how I thought he'd score bags of goals. I just seen something in him that day that I'd never seen in a Sunderland forward before. His movement and ability in the air really caught my eye that day.Remember my impressions at the time perfectly.
