Or are you feeling a little flat, a bit of, oh canââ¬â¢t be bothered? It may be an age thing but donââ¬â¢t think so or it could be an anti climax following the build up to the Spurs game, canââ¬â¢t put my finger on it. Most Mondays are full of the Saturday just gone and the start of the build up for the weekend to come, maybe thatââ¬â¢s it, no weekend to come! Maybe its just a general feeling of negativity, 3 games lost in a row, not a big problem but still a negative. Our reliable keeper just dropping his standards a little, he will be back but still a negative. 40,000 plus on Saturday but all I hear and read is about Quinn and the lost few thousand, not a major problem but still a negative. These pages over the past few days, TBH I have been on the general chat forum a lot because some of the comments left be bemused and negative. Never mind, the sun is shinning and my boy Osca is back home after his weekend away.
Syd, I reckon the word you are looking for is perspective in regard to the past couple of days comments?
Perspective, what a strange word to read on here, must try and remember that one, perspective, sounds good
Losing 3 in a row is depressing, our once tight defence leaking goals and we are short up front. Still this is Sunderland and we are improving and we were bound to have a little slump. In detail our defenders and keeper at set pieces are poor, Gyan, Rico and Sess are all fairly small (although Gyan is not bad in the air) but we need Campbell/Welbeck asap and it is starting to look like it ay cost us not bringing in another forward. Hendo is looking as if he needs a rest and we have some tough games ahead. On the plus side the two new guys look good and comfortable, and we have an OK run in once the tough games are out of the way and hopefully Turner/Meyler/Welbeck etc must return soon. As always winning and points do cheer fans up and as for Sir Naill when we play consistent, winning, attractive football the crowds will come back. ATM we have won nowt and lost 6-2 to the mags so all is not rosy
We have Arsenal - Barça to look forward to, as neutrals. Or have I fallen for the hype, like I always do...
I think "perspective" is about right. To get perspective, you have to take a step or two back to see exactly where things are and where we're going. Doing this, we get a bit quieter, a bit less involved. I think we were starting to get somewhat euphoric, despite the reality checks coming from Newcastle (twice) and Blackpool at home. We brought in two class acts and then ... lost three matches on the trot. We need two weeks off, and by the time the next match comes around, we (supporters and players) will be able to look (latin: specere) through (latin: per) the situation and see things more clearly. End of lesson in etymology (another word you didn't expect to find on this forum, Syd?)
the relationship or proportion of the parts of a whole, regarded from a particular standpoint or point in time
Heres a perspective Syd...Its from Craig Gordons point of view Just think of how he`s feeling today....One of the things I woke up this morning was a game I attended as a 12 year old...There was reckoned to be 68,000 people in Roker Park (The estimate varies upwards) that night and if you talk to anybody that went youd know how frightening that was...The anniversary is next month...we played against Man United...My uncle had used a little wooden board wedged against the wall of the Fulwell end to let me move in the cavity towards the turnstile for the last 5 yards People could see what he was trying to do and helped "Ginan get in youngun" Can you imagine trying to get in with a plank of wood these days?...I was frightened getting in but when I stumbled into the ground and looked back it was even more frightening looking back down the streets to see the thousands locked out Ironically because I had my little wooden shelf I could see the game not too badly .....Anyway Its well over 45 years ago (I cant believe it!!!!!)..... Maybe I should throw it out as a quiz question Can anybody remember the game and what was the link with Craig Gordon today?
No I cant but dont let the question be hidden mate, cut, paste and a thread of its own, I want to know the answer.
ha! now cutting and pasting has never been high on my list of skills....is that the same as Reply with quote?
AWWWW Syd! Ive just typed out the whole lot again.......Dont do anything.....Ill delete mine Hhahahhahhahhhahahha!!!!
Thanks Syd well done!!!!hahaha!.....I tried to send you a personal message but youre well and truly clogged!!!
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE SYD,i have a raging boner, I'm about to share and if that isn't positive enough then I'm a Dutchman
Funnily enough I have felt quite positive since Saturday...I thought it was an excellent atmosphere and a decent performance...I also got a beautiful home made valentines card from my nine year old daughter, with 'the best dad in the world' written on it which cheered me up no end.
