I wouldn't count it as scraps, but its not great.

Konate and jota for the first team and future, thiago is quality but will be on the wane sooner rather than later.

The rest are fillers, I really would like to know where the TV money, league and champions league winner money, all the great money we are now getting from sponsorship etc is actually going.

It's still only 40mill a season on average - very similar to mid-to-lower table clubs in the league. Unless you have benevolant scouting teams or a genius of a manager, that level of spending will eventually get you to that spot on the table. It's not a pittance, but it's not what I'd expect from owners who've recently won the PL, CL and have aspirations of cementating their place at the top of the tree.

The big money in recent years seems to have gone on bumper new contracts for our top players (unless they're called Wijnaldum) to retain talent rather than recruiting more.

But again where did you want the money spend in 19/20? When we had a full team. A left full? A forward, thaigo maybe?

Again whether you believe what I do (the budget for transfers is indeed 40mil before sales) or you believe that our spending to get the 3 or 4 really good players in was funded by Barcelona IMO this all comes back to squad and klopp.

It's a full squad, it's got actually more foreign players than city or Chelsea. (Sahqiri and origi) and in the end what exactly do we want?

I say it every time, real forward option and another midfielder but then ketia and ox and Elliott put ther hands up and you then wonder if klopp has it sorted.

I will still say 4 for 3 spots with acon coming is not good. We need one more real option and I laugh at minamino who spent all preseason trying to press without actually putting a foot near a ball or being 2 yards behind play but scored a couple and is now THE option.

A 40mil budget while self funding the anfieod Road end, self funding a word class training ground and paying fsg back at 10mil a year for the main stand loan.

Have to say that's not too bad for a self funded club.

The real complaint is fsg are not like city owners and didn't just drop the development on anfield all at once like magic and make the money vanish as its ot part of ffp or build the training ground for nothing as its not ffp.

    Lol.

Fsg use the ffp as a defence, no other club takes a blind bit of notice, but apparently we must stick to to it.

We are constantly told that we are doing better than ever commercially, we had a very successful few years and the TV money is stupid but we are apparently skint?

As for squad places, maybe moving a few on would be an idea? Maybe not asking for stupid amounts for players that can't get a game for us?

Divock is ****e, nobody looks interested but we still stand strong on 20million, it's ridiculous.

Oh as an additional, just because people wish to be a bit more active in the transfer market, does not automatically equate to wanting to be like city.

Exactly how i see it too.

Clubs known we can do better than big div and shaq for about 3/4 windows, for me the clubs not done enough to move them on, straight up tell both thier agents to find your lad another club as we wont be registering him this season.

Somehow we are skint as you say. Even after multiple commercial deals and sponsers, a cl and a pl we still claim poverty. How?

When Klopp goes we are ****ed imo. back to midtable as no other manager is gonna be able to compete or even keep on level with the oil clubs with the pittance hes been given to work with.

Klopp and alot of luck masks our deficiencies.

I'm not asking to piss money away left right and centre, but if we havnt the money to strengthen after winning the prem and European crowns then when exactly will we have the money?

Im the same, I don't want a marquee every window if we don't need one, but what i do want is us to be able go out and spend 50m on someone the squad absolutely needs, like a defender last season or a midfielder this time round.

But no were buying players on £5 installments paid over 20 years, while asking for 20m cash upfront for someone who doesn't even make our team.

Joke. Wheres all the money ffs.

    Well said.

FSG are trying their best to do the right thing and run the club responsibly, which I appreciate.

But as you say, we're supposedly in the best shape financially which led to CL and PL success, yet we still struggle. The prudent approach may be good for short term / one off successes but I dont think it works for long periods of sustained success. We should have been capitalising on our success, from a position of power.

whats the last time FSG spoke about much of anything to us? bar apologising of course.

I think in general they are all happy with where they are at. I'd personally have moved on the adrian, shaqiri and origis of this world anytime an offer came in but covid certainly ripped any chance of good money away. I suppose ti takes 2 to tango with these deals.

I am a bit surprised we went and re-signed adrian as he is a hard worker but he is not HG and so takes a very valuable squad place.

My view is theres a big fat squad with no spaces available so these guys need to go but as usual the bargain bucket shoppers don't move til the last second. We can't make them bid unfortunately.

I would personally also perfer the club to make the move and have the player in and at worst be laoning out origi or shaqiri but we don't seem to want to.

being prudent leads to having a long term and coming from Derby you have a perfect illustration in your home town of what happens when you're not .
