Poor handling of expanding the vaccination age range to include 12-18 year olds. Not because it’s the wrong thing to do - seems sensible to me and other places like the US and France already do it - but because the explanation for the reversal of policy which was set (vaccination only for immune compromised kids) only 2 weeks ago is really vague and inadequate, leaving the field free to conspiracy theorists. When it was decided to offer only Pfizer to the under 40s, another reversal of policy, it was painstakingly and very clearly explained. Come on, buck up, do the same.
There was a retired paediatrician on GB news giving many, seemingly valid, reasons for NOT giving the vaccine to children, which countered the previous interview from Grant Schapps who said it was the right thing to do. Difficult for people like me, who are in no way experts, to know what to do for our kids. Nice though that at least they were giving both sides of the debate.
Qatar has finally been moved from the UK Red List to the Amber List. I am fully vaccinated here but that isn't recognised by the UK, so I believe I have to do a 10 day home vaccination and a number of pcr tests. After 2 years it looks like I can finally get back I'll aim to fit my visit in around a couple of R's games, one at LR and an away match
wheres ghoop when you need him Australia borders: Citizens living overseas could be 'trapped' if they return By Frances Mao BBC News, Sydney please log in to view this image IMAGE SOURCEGETTY IMAGES image captionMany Australians have struggled to return due to tough border policies Australians living overseas could be "trapped" in Australia if they return, after the nation's government tightened its border rules without notice. Since March last year, the country has banned its citizens from leaving the country as part of its Covid strategy. That restriction has not previously applied to Australians who usually live in other countries. But they will now need to apply for an exemption for outbound travel - in line with rules for other Australians. Australia's tough border rules have been controversial. Critics say this change - in effect from 11 August - will further punish families and deter citizens from returning. The government said the measure aimed to reduce the risk of Covid cases entering the country, as it grapples with its worst outbreaks in a year. Australia already has a weekly limit on incoming travellers and bans foreigners from entry unless they have an exemption. Its policies are among the strictest globally. Last month, it halved the number of permitted arrivals due to Delta variant outbreaks. Many Australians have expressed outrage at the latest move, branded by some as barbaric. Alexandra Phelan, who lives in the US, tweeted she was "waking up to news that I'm effectively exiled from my country". While the closed-border policy has been mostly supported in Australia, many have also criticised its impact on citizens. The BBC has been told of cases in the past year where Australians have been unable to leave to care for sick or dying loved ones, or to retrieve their children from relatives. Why can't Australians get back into their country? Celebrity rush exposes Australian 'double standard' The battle to open up 'Fortress Australia' Legal experts have questioned whether Australia's rules breach constitutional rights by effectively preventing some citizens from being able to return. The government has said Australia will not re-open until at least 80% of its population is vaccinated, likely to be sometime next year. The current total is 19%. More than half of Australia's 26 million people are currently in lockdown, due to Delta outbreaks in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Sydney - the worst-hit city - has recorded over 4,300 cases in its outbreak. On Friday, New South Wales state reported 291 new cases - its highest daily number in the pandemic so far.
I've been told by a 'vertigo' sufferer, that his doctor has instructed that he does not have to wear a mask. Neither does he have to show proof............. he merely has to notify any authority who may instruct him otherwise, that he has such a condition. I can only think this will open a pandoras box for anyone who may not wish to mask up. On a further note .................... here in Queensland, we came back out of lockdown, for the time being. Still have to mask up, although, today l was plastering so the mask stayed off. There was no one around anyway but as any tradie will tell you, it is impossible to wear a mask whilst carry tools / bags of plaster / tiles, etc ........ and & down stairs or ladders and still draw breath without passing out. Well, as a 60 year old, that is where l'm at. Its a blooody struggle in the best of times! Anyway, as you were ............................
Hiya you lot So I have just had a positive lateral flow test, done a PCR test and waiting on that for confirmation. I have no symptoms, I am double jabbed and the only reason I did it was because I am seeing by very very very pregnant and unvaccinated daughter this week. I hope it is a false positive, but having done loads of these tests during the Euros I do not think it is So lets see who is pinged...
Hope its wrong Beth but from my very recent experience its the other way round. Mother in law was negative on the lateral flow, then positive, then negative until a PCR confirmed a positive. She had all the classic symptoms to be fair. Her daughter (my sis in law, the nurse) still lives with them and has just tested positive whilst the father in law has been negative throughout which is bizarre. They both had the pfeizzer vaccine whilst he had the astra zenica, im wondering if thats made a difference. Best wishes to you
Hope your family escape the worst effects of this blighted thing Bobmid, the testing is bizarre I agree I am double AZ jabbed...the people I was at the match on Saturday with are currently all negative My daughter I went swimming with on Friday is negative Hubbie is mildly positive.... we will see
Is mildly positive on lateral flow...only just can see the line. He has retired to bed not feeling well. Me... fighting fit and just bl00dy annoyed
Ah right, not sure that means mildly positive Beth. It means positive. Both the mother in laws and sister in laws were very faint lines, the latter hardly visible at all but still a line.
Following on from my post above......3 employees in that company tested positive last week and the remainder have all been for PCR Tests that have all returned negative. 2 of them had had their first jabs, not sure about the youngest employee as he's a student doing temporary work during the summer......... Although I was in there today working I was isolated in my own office and wore a mask if any interaction required with staff....... I'm going to be working from home for the rest of the week...... Stay safe all
That PCR test came back within 11 hours....yes I am impressed. Both of us are positive on PCR. Isolation until Thursday 19th. Feeling okay except for my toe....oh did I mention I think I broke my toe on Sunday, snubbed it in the coffee table, it is black blue and red and I can't put any weight on it...now I will never know if it is broken. That so far is my only complaint
