Wigan remind me of Villa a few years ago. Hours from going to the wall then all of a sudden money to burn. Wigan have to be the favourites for top spot. imo like.
Not with the business they've done so far, no chance in my opinion. As it stands, on paper, they're miles behind Ipswich and Sheff Weds for starters.
Funny how we have posters on this thread who think a 30 goal striker is **** yet a “I’ll play when I can be arsed” winger should be sought after!!
The reason why he is where he is and also the reason why we didn't try and get him. We have had enough of that attitude over the years Januzaj springs to mind, Borini when he came on a perm, we even had the extreme of Jack "I will never be arsed" Rodwell. I am happy to see the recruitment seeming to consider attitude now. Edit: forgot Will "I'll not even be room temperature here" Grigg.
No idea why we weren’t back in for him, no one on here can tell me he wouldn’t have been useful at least as back up.
I can. He wasn't useful as back up in the run in last season. You can cite the manager for that perhaps but we still have the same manager.
The worry is our game coincides with Wyke, Power and Jones making their debuts, the latter two both impressed after a game or two and then reverted to type, we must guard against this on Saturday and I think we will. We all know what Wyke did and opinions are varied but whatever happens I would not want any of the Wigan recruits playing for us this season, all three are imo. long term obstacles to any progress and not the means to it. Bar one or two performances i thought he was really poor. I think Gooch is a better player personally.
When he can be bothered to pass the ball? Ridiculously greedy, I’d prefer Jones starting for us on Saturday over Gooch.
I feel Jones never really got enough of a run of games for him to bed in properly, but on what we have seen then I prefered Gooch as I felt he buzzed about a bit more in midfield wheras Jones tended to be poor when he left the wing. Still, I guess that Jones was brought to Wigan to play as an old fashioned winger to bombard crosses in to Wyke, so I'll be very happy if he isn't deemed fit enough to play on Saturday.
