It would be anti-competitive and a closed shop. That automatically makes it a bad thing.

But on the plus side, it would give other clubs a better chance to compete for the national trophies wouldn't it?

Personally the term "big club" can mean alot of things, being successful (Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal) being rich (Chelsea, Man City) and once all the "big clubs" are away from the domestic scene you will then develop more domestic successful clubs and I could see us being 1 of them after a season or 2 in the Prem AFTER the Euro Super League split, Everton would almost certainly be classed as a domestic "big club" along with Spurs if they stay in the domestic game obviously.

The Euro Super League I can see turning into the MLS basically, there would be 2 divisions split and then possibly the top 8 maybe 16 (depending on how many clubs are in each league) would then compete in a play-off type system.

If it got big enough and you had for example 64 clubs split into 2 or 4 leagues involving 16 (each team plays each other twice) or 32 (each team plays each other once) teams per league you could then virtually adopt the MLS way of doing it and half an Eastern Europe and Western Europe division and again I could imagine Eastern v Western matches for friendlies. Then they would need to decide if the play-off rota would be done the same as the Champions League where it's a draw after each round or have it set like the World Cup so you can see where - for example - Man Utd would face Man City further down the line

So if these power mad and greedy foreign owners are permitted to go ahead with this latest crazy idea for creating super wealthy elite clubs and no regard for the rest of us how will they get their up and coming talent through academies such as the one saints have developed because these foreign owners will not stop until there are only 20 professional clubs left in England.

Until they get bored of that and then move on and ruin the next sport they can buy their way into.

It's already happening in other sports chinasaint! Cricket have got the power hungry money spinning Indian Premier League, rugby (although not to such an extent yet afaik) have got it in France, sport as we know it is changing, it's just unfortunate football was the first to be hit and it was hit hard!

You could say the same has happened in Formula 1 over the last 15 years and also at the highest levels of Boxing - huge amounts money has infiltrated those sports and played a major influence in recent years.

Of course, it's all aimed at the remote TV and Internet viewer. You can see why - put simply, you can't get the world's viewing population in your stadium. However, it distorts the notion of club support even more drastically than it already is. SaintinChina or Chinasaint mentioned that there are plenty of ManU shirt wearers, and AC/Inter Milan, etc.. For why..? They have no real idea, and 99.9% of them have no connection either. Taking the sport of football to areas where it hasn't been incredibly popular, or indeed almost completely unknown, before is one thing. To foist Western football teams, and their loaded superficial competitions on Oriental or Eastern countries is another.

My mistake posting a new thread but hardly the most obvious multiple posting of a subject - not a very clear title from TheSecondStain

It will never happen because it would simply destroy football in this country. It would all become totally meaningless.

I don't want it to happen, but I think it could quite easily happen. If the rules on changing something are as simple as a proposal is put forward and 14 of the 20 Premier League teams have to agree to it, then I see no reason why it wouldn't happen. All of the bottom end Prem teams would vote for it as it gives them security and guarenteed revenue, which in the long term could result in a stronger bottom end of the league. And apart from the big 5/6 I don't think I'd be surprised to see any of the others go down at some point.

My understanding would be that because of the FA veto it could not actually happen. However I'm wandering does that mean they could actually form another league outside of our FA regulations? Am I right in saying we would be the only country in the world with such a division? How would Europe view it were the money is at the moment? Not a good idea is my guess.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15336398.stmSeveral foreign-owned Premier League clubs want to scrap relegation, according to League Managers Association (LMA) chief Richard Bevan.

Bevan fears that if more clubs are sold to foreign investors they may have enough votes to force changes.

But the Premier League said relegation and promotion were part of its rules and added to the league's strength.

Bevan hopes that a parliamentary inquiry into football goverance would also help prevent the proposal.

"We're very keen that the report is successful in helping the Football Association introduce a licensing programme for clubs," he said.

"Because there are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League.

    Sorry disagree with this completely

What would be the point? Apart from the few big clubs trying to win title, the PL would have no point to it. Can you imagine all those years we had in the Premier League if there was no threat of relegation. Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised if a European League was set up...how awful would that be with hardly any fans travelling to away games. Plain greed with little excitement.
