After we've supplied them with their first ever premier league winning captain and a guy who has captained them to Champions league glory... Do you really think Liverpool will see us an 'enemy' because we haven't accepted a free player from them?For a league 1 club to make enemies of premier club, not the brightest of moves.
Why must a fair chunk of our support be so hysterical about everything.

Well as I said they can't have wanted the squad to be in this state at this stage of preseason. No one plans for that so the evidence is there for all to see. Either it's other clubs, agents and players or its us. We've been reported to have pulled out of the Gallacher deal so either a left back signs soon or its future evidence somethings not going as planned.

It doesn't make good reading, no, but its essentially just rehashing what we all know and casting it in the most negative light possible. There doesn't have to be anything wrong, it might just be taking longer to get our targets than it has for other clubs.
Interesting article in The Chronicle, but the two things that stood out for me are
"Johnson is the 18th permanent manager or head coach I have dealt with at Sunderland, and every single one of them has stressed the importance of getting transfer business completed early in the summer window to allow new players time to settle, and for them to spend the maximum possible time to work with new arrivals."
Those of us fans that are greatly concerned about the lack of signings get called bed wetters.
"Questions can be put to Johnson, and he does of course have input into the recruitment process, but in truth it is Speakman who is best placed to give the answers.
The problem is that, so far, Speakman's public utterances have been limited to 'big picture' interviews with the club's own media channels.
Eight months into his role, Speakman has yet to meet or be interviewed by independent, external, media."
Isn't it a bit odd that Speakman is hidden away from the real media, those who can ask the questions that should be asked without risking their job?!

This reminds me of the takeover thread, when loads of people were convinced it was going to fall through and latched onto any bad news story as gospel.
The people in charge now aren't mugs and I'm relaxed about it. If we have a slow start to the season but then get the right players in at the back end of the window and power on through then that's fine by me. That's actually what I expect will happen.

He's right mind. Got a few pelters over the road for saying something doesn't sit right with me regarding Speakman, dunno what it is, just a hunch. He reminds me of a former boss of mine. He came in with gusto and praise and ended up being full of guff. Hope I'm wrong obviously.
The Chronicle is a black and white paper. It's wouldn't be them if they weren't trying to talk us down.
None of us can see the future, I just choose not to worry about it until the window is shut and I can see where we are. I also won't be upset if we start badly due to having to wait for quality.
If the window shuts and we've got a threadbare squad then I'll criticise and worry. Another big if and not one I expect to happen.
When people are quoting 'the local media' can we remember it's actually 'the Newcastle Chronicle' ...

How many sporting or technical directors at premier league clubs are out there giving interviews to mainstream media? Not very many I would suggest. Their job has never been front of house and never should be. I cant get my head around what this journalist is expecting. Probably bent out of shape they dont know what is happening behind the scenes, now that we at long last have a behind the scenes

It's nit a big if as things stand. A lot of work to do and less time to do it in. We've pulled out of a deal with no explanation. Lots saying don't panic it'll be fine with no evidence but those who are concerned told their concerned over nothing with no evidence of it changing.
We can't a ford to give our rivals up to 15 point lead and if we start badly it'll be much harder to pull around. Notsny seasons like the Keane promotion where teams start that badly and.go up automatically.
I think most people want to post positive messages and praise the club. Problem is we can't at present. I want to look forward to seeing safc sweeping all before them but I'm not confident with one Untested at this level striker and no fullbacks.
