If I may be allowed a digression from transfer news on this thread - since there have been numerous ones already.
I've often wondered what questions come up in footy quizzes to which the answer is Hull City. I don't really do or look at quizzes.
Apart from the obvious as one of first teams to be involved in penalty shoot-out. What about clubs with managerial links to managers of all 4 UK home countries? Does that ever come up?
Mike Smith & Terry Neill managed Wales and N. Ireland at the same time as City. Peter Taylor managed England before City and Tommy Dochery was assistant to Terry Neill before departing to manage Scotland. Docherty the tricky one, but still all 4.
Are there any other clubs who could boast such a claim?

You missed out ex City player Don Revie. First heard this in the 1980s, after Mike Smith managed Wales for the second time after being with us. Revie, Neill, Docherty and Smith meant we were the first club to have supplied managers for all 4 home countries.

Thanks for the reminder about Revie, though he didn't manage City. If we were the first, who were the others? Have there been others?

Don't know if there are any others TBH. Can't think of any. The original statement, which I read somewhere after Mike Smith became Wales manager the second time, was that this meant Hull City became the first club to have provided (odd choice of word really) managers for all 4 home nations.

So, does the Bernard loan signing mean that embargo restrictions on squad size have been resolved?

It must be!

Assuming Bernard is coming in with a view to a permanent deal as the gaffer mentioned. He's only got a year left and is 20 now. Suspect we'll use him as we used Slater last season (diff position though). Build up his minutes throughout the season. It's a massive step going for L2 to the champ

Steve McClaren ?

Arsenal?

Yes, but I was on about the statement we were the first club to provide managers for all 4 home nations when Mike Smith managed Wales for the second time after being with us,. It was a question in quizzes at one time. Steve McClaren came along later.

Can't think of another club which has done this.

Sites playing up!!

Tommy Doc
Joe mercer
Terry neill
Dave Bowen

Man City should have a shout too I reckon

Good shout on Dave Bowen. Could get the other three but would have had to do some googling to have got Dave Bowen. Which is poor considering he managed them longer than anyone else. Though Wally Barnes played for Arsenal and managed Wales way back in 1947.

Man City have had England manager, Joe Mercer, and Scottish Matt Busby but can't think of Wales and NI ones without looking. Ipswich have had a few who managed at international level but not all 4.

Of course technically we are still the first as Docherty and Neill didn't manage international sides until they had been with us.<laugh> We are a veritable breeding ground for future international managers.
