Charlie Austin isn't especially small or nippy and has an attitutude problem. Not to mention that he actively dislikes Saints. He finds the net, but he's not a team player, which we need if we're planning on playing the ball towards goal. Rasiak mk2 - scores loads but does sod all else. Premier League strikers need to be able to play as part of a unit and Austin doesn't do that.
I read some twaddle about Saints being in a race with some Premier League club [Fulham comes to mind] to sign a Norwegian RB. Sadly, the name was soooo Norwegian, I can't remember even how to start it off,. let alone write all of it. Aparently, he's good though. Made me think, either it's twaddle, or the club are starting to look in areas where they can strengthen for the Premier League.
Think your referring to risse.. But he went to Fulham!!! I doubt we'd get hooper as Celtic will be expecting a large sum in the terms of 6/7 million would be excellent signing in my opinion!! Still farely you f too.. Deff a team player
Goalkeepers - No Replacement needed yet (maybe at the end of the season or next jan) Defenders - Hooiveld on a premenant deal or loan again. Right back, possibly a centre back that can play right back if we dont get hooiveld. Midfielders - Could do with 1 or 2 wingers as he doesn't seem to like playing SDR from the start. and especially with lallana out at the moment. Forwards - Possibly one in january and then depending on league another one in the summer..
I think we need cover for Lambo, if he gets injured we have no height up front, don't think Guly is at his best if he plays as a front man. I personally think I would take the gamble with Beattie (if the deal was right in personal terms for the club). Free agent, has the experience, is a target man and with the guidance of Sir Nigel & Crosby I think he would find his form. (even if he has to prove himself before signing an improved deal). Hope Barney improves and gets back to full fitness, if not someone like Billy Sharpe would be a great investment especially now he can see the club are going palces.
Sorry disagree,i like him as a player.Good to know that you know so much about him though, must be a friend?
I don't know him personally, but I do know enough about him to be able to suggest that he isn't for us. I just don't see him as the type of player who likes to get his boots dirty in the build up to a goal like Connolly and Lambert do all the time. Plus he is a prick who doesn't like Saints.
Clearly a striker is required in Jan (but then again, that's been obvious since the start. I've been wanting a new striker since before we even got promoted), and I'd say a pacey, out-and-out winger would go down nicely as well (although its far from an urgent requirement). The CB position will also need looking at with Hooiveld's loan coming to and end, but hopefully we can simply extend until the end of the season (or sign him full-time if not) so that it doesn't become an issue.
Ah, probably confused us both there. Not Norwegian, but Swedish. Mikael Lustig is the name. Touch of the R.J.MacReady's, there. Here's the link: http://www.clubcall.com/fulham/fulham-southampton-eye-right-back-1309316.html
Well if we're to return to playing Premiership football, then it's only right that we have a few Scandinavians on board again - especially in the defence.
If we are in a great position come January (top two) then I can see us trying to sign some premier league standard players. Obviously if you are looking to be promoted you want these players to be able to settle and gel before the next season begins. A proven striker, pacy winger and Hooiveld or another CB would do for me.
Good as we are, I think we might want a couple more than that, StHarry, if we want to go the distance next season, without desperately looking over our shoulders at relegation. Regrettably, some will also leave. I know I'll find that quite a sad occasion, when [confident] it happens.
We do need another striker as cover for Rickie, and cover for Connolly if he does get injured again. But we really need to stiffen things up in defence, as we look too chaotic at times. On Saturday we looked like Barcelona going forward, but like Basingstoke Reserves when caught on the counter-attack.
From what little I know about him, Lustig could be about perfect...loads of pace, very good crossing and an attacking mentality, but also solid defensively and able to cover centre back. Not going to get my hopes up there though; sounds like he'll have plenty of suitors when his contract expires in January.
Yep, NA sold Hooper to Celtic. I notice he scored more than 1 goal every 2 games for Scunny in the Championship, and still only 23.
