I see there are words being spoken and possible moves being made, where relegation and promotion, to and from, the Premier League may be stopped. It's said that foreign owners want an end to it. I understand that. They want to minimise the risk in their business. Should have gone elsewhere then. I'm not saying they can never make it happen, but moves should be put in place where it CAN'T happen. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15336398.stm Your view..?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2050049/Foreign-owners-want-scrap-Premier-League-relegation.html This personally and I'm sure I speak for every single 1 of you would be an absolute shambles, they would have to make alot of changes to European football for anyone to stay including players and staff aswell as the fans. It wouldn't be fair to anyone under the Premier League to not have any right to play in Europe unless they win the FA Cup or League Cup which it is becoming more and more difficult to do for any sides in the Championship or below! What do you guys think of this?
Already created a thread, mate. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/94512-Trying-To-Pull-Up-The-Drawbridge
It's a completely ridiculous idea, foreign owners trying to f**k up the English game for everyone all because they want a few extra quid in their pockets. I f**king hate the way football is going, it's an absolute disgrace. Also, just how exactly would they implement no relegation? How would they decide which teams stay in the Premiership permanently? They are clueless, greedy arseholes and that's being nice... Can't see it happening and I hope it doesn't, but if it does, i'm certain there will be major repercussions.
Apologies Second Stain, I had a quick look and didn't spot it. MODS CAN YOU MERGE OR DELETE THIS ONE PLEASE EDIT: I did spot it but didn't understand the meaning to your title so again my apologies mate
No problem, mate. I was being a bit obscure with the title anyway. Should have written it exactly as you have.
It won't happen in the short-term as it would mean the Prem League would have to split from the FA and technically, UEFA could then not recognise Prem teams without a Governing body and they wouldn't be allowed to play in the Champions League. Although I'm sure they'd find a way round it. Still think the possibility of a full time European super league is more likely (Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barca, Inter, AC, PSG, Juve, Bayern Munich, Borrusia Dortmund, Ajax and possibly some of the new rich Russian clubs). With those teams able to sell not only the tv & internet rights to the league but their own games as well, they would be even richer than they are now. Leaving the rest of us to pick up the pieces. It will happen eventually, much like when the clubs broke away to form the Premier League, they are just waiting for an excuse. back then it was the fact that football league clubs had as much say as the top division one sides.... you can already see a situation happening again because it needs 14 prem clubs to agree to something to vote in changes, so the Bolton, Fulham, Blackburns, Wigans vote down any changes to foreign tv right sales, which is pissing off the big clubs.
I'll admit I was a little too young to remember the forming of the Premier League as I never paid any attention to news then, add that into the fact I wasn't really interested in football until 94/95 season, the first Prem champions I remember was Blackburn! Back then I never even knew Shearer was an ex-Saint!!! Following on from CBK's post if they were to split and make the "Euro Super League" then surely none of those teams would be eligible for them Champions League anyway as that is exactly what that league would be. The best of the best in Europe competing in a league structure! Leave the Champions League as it is now where the top x amount of teams from each league in Europe play in the competition that we know now and then the following x amount play in the Europa League along with the cup winners etc... Saintgreg, I apologised due to the fact I had started a new thread aswell as this 1 but the mods had obviously merged the thread before you spotted it lol
I would love the big five clubs to 'break away' from the Premier League, it could be the best thing to happen to English Football in years. The top league has been stale and boring for years now and the prospect of having a different League Champion each year, with everyone in with a shout would make it fantastic for the likes of clubs like Saints. I don't think that the league would be devalued too much as the top five are so far ahead that it has become a bit like the Scottish League, I just see it as a natural progression.
The 'big' five are the ones with the biggest resources and worldwide fanbase..Man U, Chelsea, Man C, Arsenal, Liverpool
It wouldn't be long before the Arabs wanted to get their trillions involved. And then some of the top teams from Africa and Brazil would have a good case to get stuck in. I am sure a rich Chinese, Korean or Indian would pop up somewhere. But this is a long way away as it they would have to be sure that they could survive outside the Governing bodies, I don't think they can.
Clubs that can leave the Premier League from either door, as far as I'm concerned are: Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc... and one or two others. The Premier League is/was really set up for these clubs, after all. The rest are cannon fodder and went along for the ride because they thought they'd prosper from it; and some undoubtedly have. You could add Man City to that elite collection too, although they haven't had their time yet. No doubt they will - possibly this season.
That's the point, it would replace the Champions League and be affiliated directly to UEFA for them to take a share of the tv income. There would be no relegation and probably the only way a club would enter it if they were voted into the league due to them being owned by a billionaire and paying an entry fee (like new NFL teams/franchises do in America) The domestic leagues remaining just wouldn't gain access to any european competitions. No point setting up their own as the tv companies only want to show the big clubs and therefore wouldn't bid big money for the rights. The Europa league is pointless and would be scrapped as it makes no money for clubs as it now, let alone with a full time Euro Super league in place.
I can see this happening to be fair, however I can't decide whether it would be a good thing or a bad thing?!
