You can spend £100,000 on a player and get a 'bargain'. You can spend £2,000,000 on a player and get a 'bargain'.
Which sort of bargain do you feel fits in better with the current player recruitment profile of the club?

Can't see the article posted anywhere earlier but here are the quotes from Johnson about sleepless nights etc....

At least people will now be aware that the club are actively looking for quality players.

I hate it when managers say 'we need to bring in some more bodies' ...

... in the past some of ours have been corpses.

Based on that article, I don't see anything to worry about in Johnson's quotes. The "sleepless nights" comment seems to be a throw away, to me; just something to say to get across that he cares. It can be taken with a pinch of salt. The key quote is "what I am comfortable with is that we're working extremely hard in the background", he knows that the squad isn't going to be complete anytime soon and the stuff about the back four supports that. I think people are jumping on the slightest thing and many, who for some reason seem to be distrustful of KLD and Johnson, are using it as a stick to beat them with.

Mate it is 5 weeks until the prem window closes. After that we probably have a couple of weeks on loans. The only panic is if you want your best 11 on day 1. 46 games is a hell of a long season. We can afford to make a leap in quality in players between match 1 and 6 and still be odds on for promotion if the players we get late are game changers. I have never felt previous regimes had the contacts or nouse to play this long game, our current recruitmemt team have got the t shirt.
I agree except for the full backs who are a pressing urgency

If you get upset by a bit piss-taking you're following the wrong sport.
Piss taking is a great part of football banter. A 4th season in L1 with low expectations of getting promoted because of a drive for sustainability is soul destroying.

At least last time in D3 we had the satisfaction of a good, winning side and table-topping performance from the outset.

This season our manager is having sleepless nights worrying about having full backs in place not just in time for our first league game, but even 4 - 6 games in.

Agree with this. I don't see anything particularly negative in Johnson's interview.....just a grain of welcome honesty to be fair to him. Of course he wants the players in so he gets a chance to work with them and,he knows,he's going to be under the microscope for the first few matches of the season, hence the sleepless nights comment. As @Confucius has said, everything revolves around our performances on the pitch. It's what we all care about more than anything else. Yes,it's great to have a fantastic match day experience, fabby fan zone, reasonably priced, cool beer available on the concourse without massive queues, internet access, first class academy and training facilities for the players, but none of that matters a tinkers toss if we aren't producing winning performances on the pitch.
And,it's understandable that, the nearer we get to the Wigan match, fans are desperate to see squad additions who,we think, are going to produce, and some handle the frustration better than others. I personally think criticism of the recruitment people and KLD is unfounded, but,as I say, everyone has their own tolerance level.

The article is fine and he knows what we want, although I'm not a big fan of Johnson. I'm not sure its a distrust of KLD, more that we have had years of empty promises whilst on a downward spiral and been royally shat on by Donald and Methven, who are still hanging around.

I know Burge has his critics, he is somewhat of a daffodil, but he is a good shot stopper and we will not get much better in this league.

However at the other end of the pitch, Wyke for all his faults (he had many) with help from Mcgeady scored lots last season. Atm I cannot see any of our current strikers scoring many goals.

Also as has already been mentioned, full backs...

It certainly does not like we are going to hit the ground running at the start if the season.

I know a process of recruitment is going on full blast with lots of irons in fires... we just have to, as they say get them over the line.... please

So currently vs Wigan we have:

Burge
O'Nien Wright Doyle Dyce
Evans
Gooch Neil Embleton McGeady
Stewart

I'd especially like a left back, and we'd have Pritchard off the bench, as he might not last the full game just yet, but that's not too bad. Obviously I'd like two fullbacks, but the left side is the priority.

If we can add someone like Galbraith, and get a quality loan striker, we wouldn't be too far off.

I disagree on Burge mind. I think his inconsistency unsettles our defenders. I think we need someone more rational.

I know I'm a broken record but I'd really like the club to focus on plugging the actual gaps in our team / squad (new full backs, another attacking option) before improving on the players we already have. Both can be done simultaneously of course.

I do think however the people who want Burge replaced are going to be very disappointed. So I'd personally like to see the Burge hate calm down somewhat so that supporters can be a bit more positive :D . Also blaming him for every single goal we concede is going to get very tiring

Possibly but according to the club's own findings by the new data analysis team, he was classed as an essential player to replace if we want promotion so on that basis it'd be odd if they weren't looking.

Maybe Patterson is their answer who knows.

I agree with the last part but surely that is all the more reason to give KLD time and space to get it right, instead of panicking that we haven't signed 11 players within 5 minutes of the transfer window opening? We've got what we've all wanted for years, the magic formula of a billionaire owner who knows and understands football. We should be saying "over to you, Kyril. Do what you need to do to get the club going in the right direction" and if that takes time we should be on board with that.

Really? Not seen that? Can you share a link?

I saw a random football analysis twitter account come up with that as part of a report but didn't know SAFC had. I assume this was some sort of leak rather than published as there's obviously no way they'd publish their findings themselves.

It is concerning but it’s the same **** every year, we should be used to it by now.
Why oh why this club is incapable of getting its **** together in time for the first game of the season is beyond me.

I think there is a difference though between people like myself who are currently worried about the state of our squad and those posters who think a billionaire is going to come in and throw millions at it. I'd also suggest that people of my age are running out of time to see us in the Premiership again, no excuse for the young bastards though. I've always said once you get this club turned around with everyone pulling in the same direction, its a runaway juggernaut. However, we all have different tolerance levels and some of those are age dictated. I just hope for my sons sake that this is indeed the U turn that we so crave

Ah yeh that was just some amateur twitter account that produces basic reports based on data. Some of it was interesting. But they were basically using one data field to prove their point and not showing any further data.

The issue with data analysis is its subjective. First you have different priorities about what data to look for and how important the data is. Secondly once you have the data in front of you, two people could come up with completely different readings of it.

Its why effective data analysis is a skill.

For all I know the club have come up with the same assessment. I don't think Burge is that good so I hope they have. But it just feels unlikely to me considering the more pressing issues.
