My fear with sustainability is that KLD will get us there over 2-3 years then get bored of sustainable league one football and leave we will be on a good footing. But good footing as a league one club. And as a fan of football rather than finance I’d rather be on shaky footing further up personally
don't usually agree with these comments as always try to see a bright side, i also have no problem with the young lads being given game time...in fact, i am one that welcomes it, but, we need 'wiser heads' in place as the main first teamers. with the take over finally completed, most of the supporters are looking to see a drastic (immediate?) improvement although i also feel enough realise this is no overnight fix but we do need to see a stronger starting line up and a decent bench asap.
We’re sick of this pathetic league. Get us promoted, throw money at it if need be we don’t care, just get us up.
The recruitment team have been a shambles so far. So much to do and so little time. Speakman & Co really need to start bringing some quality players in ASAP. I think we need 1 x keeper 2 x full backs 1 x centre half 2 x strikers 1 x winger
aye, i feel the frustration as well marra...but we have had 10 years of 'badly run' then a couple of years of 'run on the cheap with the hope of a quick promotion to net 2 blokes a quick profit' followed by a long drawn out takeover that there is a hell of a lot has to be put right...i am putting all my hope into the fact that KLD has a lot of experience in football matters and has head hunted a few staff specifically to get the club moving, but as we have seen to our loss it does not always work just throwing the cash in a wild hope that that is all it takes (grigg a prime example)
Still not convinced that we’ve got the mix right in midfield either. With our current options in there we are still looking lightweight and one paced.
can only assume it’s a wage thing. They’re probably trying to manoeuvre things and need more wage budget. Wright will be on more than Flanagan for definite.
Yeah I think its clearly Grigg and Wright who are hoovering up the majority of the wages there. AOB an absolute waste of his wage given what we saw tonight.
Just for context. The time between now and the window closing is LONGER (41 days away) than the time since the Euros started (40 days ago). And that feels ages ago, right? Personally I wish it was shorter as I can’t take any more.
There’s no point wasting money but in terms of preparation not having time can cost you places in the league. It’s now getting tight. Especially the full backs. The full backs need sorting by early next week.
Why more important than last or the one before? Still 46 games and 3 points a game isnt it? To me last was more desperate thanks to the owners not having 2 bob. Why is this season worse? The only one in jeopardy early doors I can see is Johnson if we dont start fast but as far as I can tell he could win 10 on the spin and still be unpopular with some of our fans.
Just thinking to my self (and I’m no expert in football in finance) but surely the time we are wasting with a squad way short of the mark and the fact we won’t have a complete squad in time for the season and really jeopardising promotion hopes is a bigger financial hit than playing the waiting game to get players at the right price etc. We are taking such a gamble with our policy this summer and LJ’s interview tonight for me is rang massive alarm bells. How many excuses do you make for the new ownership before you say actually this isn’t good enough, we have a paper thin squad with the season just around the corner. Sugarcoat it any way you want not being prepared has always been our downfall in recent years and people never accepted it.
Turned desperate on here tonight. What has changed? Johnson plays psychology games with recruitment teams is hardly cause for panic is it? Average players are easy to sign, good ones take longer. If we think the first 6 games will make or break i reckon we are losing the plot. No value in bringing in sub standard players so we can be ready on day 1 if ready means we are an average team. There used to be a saying that league tables werent worth looking at till christmas. Lets get the best players and see where we are in December eh?
I have to disagree. We appear a professional and thoughtful outfit for the first time in ages. We may not have the gaps in the squad filled yet but the signings made by other teams in league 1 so far are hardly terrifying. I keep saying signing average players is easy, good players not so.
How many times are we going to put a positive spin on things before we accept that needing 7 signings inside 2 weeks is shambolic. Even if it pays off the preparation has been very disappointing. I’m quite annoyed by it all in fairness.
I do agree with this. It was just the tone from Johnson tonight moved away from the good, patient, methodical process towards something more worried and chaotic. Which opens up the possibility of us ending up signing players to make up the numbers late on. It wouldn’t be the first time. Essentially I was relaxed when it seemed the club was relaxed. Now the guy who was telling us to relax is telling us he’s not relaxed and is having sleepless nights. As you say it’s probably just pressure on recruitment. But that itself is a cause for minor concern. What felt like a United front is now starting to feel a bit more chaotic
