Icelandic media reporting it: Gylfi Sigurðsson handtekinn fyrir meint brot gegn barni Lögreglan í Bretlandi gerði húsleit hjá landsliðsmanninum og sleppti honum gegn tryggingu. "Gylfi Sigurðsson arrested for alleged violation against a child" "The police in Britain did a house-search of the national team's man and released him against bail" I knew learning Old Norse would have its benefits for reading modern Icelandic at some point...
I can't read a word of that. The word for child is close but bugger me whoever says the Nordic languages are all pretty similar must have been smoking Reindeer ****.
Icelandic is the most conservative of the Nordic languages. The spelling and grammar is almost identical to Old Norse. The phonology has changed a bit though. Elfdalian is the only Nordic dialect/language that preserves the Old Norse nasal vowels. For some reason, Icelandic lost the Old Norse pitch accent, whereas Norwegian and Swedish kept it.
Not that I really care, but should we even be naming anyone on here, the AG has come out and said it's illegal to do so at this stage? Any legal people on here?
It's been all over the press today, we must be past the point of anonymity, unless they're all breaking the law...
Everyone is breaking the law, and anyone who names him publicly could be left a hefty bill for libel if he is proven innocent.
