As much as id like us to sign Doyle i hope we have another Centre back in mind aswell who is alot more physical. I know Wright can handle himself but Flanagan is like a human tooth pick and this lad looks like a bairn...

Xhemajli still has alot more rehab to do apparently so i havent mentioned him. The last thing we want is to drop vital points early in the season.

He had a motm display in our first game against Fulham and then he disappeared from the radar. Weird signing that

I forgot about the Fulham game aswell, remember thinking we had made a decent couple of signings just couldn't finish them off that day! He looked very good that day. As you say strange one that signing as he seemed to be a decent player, was here something about his attitude?

That article also says we are making progress on a new striker.

Corry Evans is understood to be having a medical at Sunderland having left Blackburn Rovers at the end of his contract.

The Northern Ireland international midfielder is expected to sign a two-year deal on Wearside and will be another experienced recruit for manager Lee Johnson after Alex Pritchard’s move to the Stadium of Light from Huddersfield Town.

What is Evans’ background?
Evans will be 31 at the end of the month and, having begun his career at Manchester United, has spent the last eight years at Ewood Park. He has 66 Northern Irish caps.

Evans’s brother Jonny had two productive spells on loan at Sunderland early in his career.

Is this a boost for Sunderland?
Evans’s arrival, along with Pritchard, should calm some of the growing nervousness on Wearside regarding signings.

The club are also thought to be making progress on a new striker, having lost Charlie Wyke to Wigan, whom they meet on the opening day of the season.

He's been linked to championship clubs all summer. so whilst people are definitely going to be underwhelmed by him (despite his 65 international caps no less), I think it's a solid signing.

He'll be a useful acquisition, given that he can play at CB or in midfield. Made only 11 starts in each of the last 2 seasons mind, according to the Lancashire Telegraph, having played in 33 games 3 seasons ago..

They point out that he played well in a system with 2 holding midfielders, but when Mowbray changed to a midfield 3, it didn't suit him.

Good signing, if his fitness has improved. Groin issues are reoccurring. Not so fussed about the fractured skull funny enough

yeh the fractured skull is an irrelevance if he has fully recovered from it. The groin injury will need to be managed.
