Yet some countries/regions have managed to keep it in check and minimise the risk so whilst it may not be able to be eradicated completely it can be slowed.

Well it is easier if you are an Island, a fair distance from any other.
So, for example, Australia is better placed that GB to take advantage of this.
But New Zealand beats both.
Then there is population density.
In UK for example one of the safest places to be is the Scottish Highlands.
Lowest rates of infection.
Lowest density, (I guess).
But even Australia, with all it's border controls and geographic advantages has somehow got the 'Delta Variant' now.
I take the point you are making, but I feel that the problem is just a bit more complicated.
So far, whatever solution humanity has come up with, this virus has found a way round it.
However NO country can survive indefinately under lockdown conditions.
I recall one of Boris's advisers saying a while ago that this virus is going to have to be lived with.
