You can't protest against racism and then get in a jet that causes pollution and for polar bears to drown. Or something like that. Must be true because the Daily Hate takes that line. Literally was a story about Meghan Markle shouldn't complain about racism and dare to wear jewelry, even if it's centuries-old, because it could have been mined by slaves. The bogus dilemmas and whataboutery would be quite comical if it was a skit by Viz or Private Eye: the fact it is straight-faced 'reason' from alt-right hate platforms like the Mail and the Express, and is lapped up like catnip by the MAGA generation senile delinquents is more tragic than funny.

Actually in fairness, I've got a 'mate' he's one of those environmentally friendly, rock loving type of guy. Once travelled all over the UK to look for a gas guzzling big fook off motor to replace his previous environmentally friendly version which cramped his style, but in fairness he don't own a TV.....just runs dozens of other devices instead. <laugh>

I didn't realise you and Piskie were so close!

Does anybody know how long you have to cash a cheque? I've just found one in the back of the drawer from Dicky Branson and it's dated February...

I don't think they actually have an expiry date, but banks reserve the right to reject them after 6 months. <ok>
Cheers again. It's no biggy it's only 80 odd quid. Apparently I overpaid on my final bill when I closed down my account, in 2013.

6 months. Found one in the loft I'd left in an old laptop bag from Go Compare for £300 dated November 2019. I tried to say I couldn't cash it due to the pandemic. They replied that you can cash them online by putting the cheque number into your own online bank account. I did not know that. Bastards.

For the players to refuse to play in a WC finals, whether collectively or individually, would be a courageous decision which I personally would support. Doubt many other people would. Do you seriously think it’s reasonable for them to make that call without the backing of the FA? Would you? Perhaps they should have refused to play in Russia too? That would have gone down well back home.

To say they are hypocrites, for taking a stand - or rather a knee - against racism while playing in countries with appalling human rights records, doesn’t add up at all. They have the right to protest against racism, whatever else they may or may not do.
You are right the issues are separate, however there is a clear human rights violation going on in Qatar and I hope something drastic like teams pulling out happens.

Not sure I remember it like that. It was Blatter's last hurrah, wasn't it? He gave 2018 to Russia, 2022 to Qatar, and received a sizeable wedge from both countries, as all we had to offer in contrast was a handshake from Prince William and a threesome with Beckham and Posh Spice? I was in rehab at the time, so I may have it a bit wrong.

That could be correct.......mates of mine worked on both the Olympics and Qatar and that's what the talk amongst some of the crews working there......double deal you scratch our back kinda ting.

I couldn't argue against either your theory or my mates both sound pretty legit when money is involved

They could potentially use their position of power to bring the conversation into the public domain though like they've done with other subjects.

Not saying each individual player should refuse btw (and I was talking about the whole England setup really rather than specifically the players) but the silence coming from the authorities doesn't look good.

We've heard a lot this Summer about how this group are more than just a football team and that they represent our values and morals as a nation etc - Qatar is a perfect opportunity to back that stance up imo.

They might be more than just a football team, but I don't expect them to solve all the world's problems.

Would vote for Gareth as PM though <ok>

I've been saying for ages the home nations should boycott all matches with Israel because of their human rights record.

I'm glad some of those who've opposed that with great gusto in the past are now fully on board. I don't know about the hypocrisy of the players, but it's certainly reducing the hypocrisy on here
