Sorry, what? You're saying they can't protest against racism because they're going to play in Qatar? That's bollocks.

You don't think it's hypocritical for a group to protest equality (rightfully btw) but then go and play a tournament in a country where you can be imprisoned for being gay?

And that's not even including the thousands of workers who have died in slave conditions.

The way the workers are treated is a form of slavery. Can't go supporting that surely.

I get what Archers is saying though. Whilst I would like to see England boycott the Qatar WC, that doesn’t negate the player’s anti racism message.

It’s a difficult issue to lump it all together and say if a player protests one issue then he should protest all issues.

Should all Chelsea players refuse to play for their club because Abramovich has acquired his $$$$ through criminal activity ?

So you're problem with our footballers now is that you don't think they're woke enough?
Why you just picking me out with that reply?

I'm just agreeing that if they go to Qatar then they're hypocrites.

For the players to refuse to play in a WC finals, whether collectively or individually, would be a courageous decision which I personally would support. Doubt many other people would. Do you seriously think it’s reasonable for them to make that call without the backing of the FA? Would you? Perhaps they should have refused to play in Russia too? That would have gone down well back home.

To say they are hypocrites, for taking a stand - or rather a knee - against racism while playing in countries with appalling human rights records, doesn’t add up at all. They have the right to protest against racism, whatever else they may or may not do.

Disagree on that. The players can choose not to take part. The FA can’t force them to do anything.

Unlike the Qatari government :bandit:

They can, yeah. I’m sure our vast army of armchair heroes and human rights supporting fans would be right behind them, and would all do the same in their shoes.

Like ****. Couldn’t even get behind them when they took a collective decision to oppose racism.

They could potentially use their position of power to bring the conversation into the public domain though like they've done with other subjects.

Not saying each individual player should refuse btw (and I was talking about the whole England setup really rather than specifically the players) but the silence coming from the authorities doesn't look good.

We've heard a lot this Summer about how this group are more than just a football team and that they represent our values and morals as a nation etc - Qatar is a perfect opportunity to back that stance up imo.

You can't protest against racism and then get in a jet that causes pollution and for polar bears to drown. Or something like that. Must be true because the Daily Hate takes that line. Literally was a story about Meghan Markle shouldn't complain about racism and dare to wear jewelry, even if it's centuries-old, because it could have been mined by slaves. The bogus dilemmas and whataboutery would be quite comical if it was a skit by Viz or Private Eye: the fact it is straight-faced 'reason' from alt-right hate platforms like the Mail and the Express, and is lapped up like catnip by the MAGA generation senile delinquents is more tragic than funny.

Think the English fa was the deciding hand in the world cup going there.......they had to after the arab owned land was used for the London Olympics

Not sure I remember it like that. It was Blatter's last hurrah, wasn't it? He gave 2018 to Russia, 2022 to Qatar, and received a sizeable wedge from both countries, as all we had to offer in contrast was a handshake from Prince William and a threesome with Beckham and Posh Spice? I was in rehab at the time, so I may have it a bit wrong.
