The problem is as Saff said, they claim it isn't anything to do with the black lives matter movement yet it literally had black lives matter on their shirts and on advertising hoarding. The raised fist also tips a wink to BLM, and black power previously. Your average moron isn't going to differentiate between things. Just think of something different maybe? Keep doing something, but change the wording and gesture.
I don't go along with the gesture politics part of it. If the people affected think it's an effective protest then that's up to them, the government should support that imo. I agree that it's not effective and more pressure needs to be implemented.
Nothing will work because people have been divided into groups(boxes).....so until people realise this nowt will change. Bit like the stanford prison experiment but on a grander global scale.
"political actions or positions taken chiefly to gain publicity or influence public opinion, typically requiring little effort or having no significant impact." These active players have, so far, turned their Instagrams off for a day and bent the knee. I 100% agree with Les Ferdinand and John Barnes on this, dont bend the knee. They like playing for England and therefore are unwilling to make that sacrifice. Mings, Sterling and Sancho Are three og Englands best players. It will have an impact. Until they band together and do something big, its all gestures
Yeah I agree on that they should refuse to play. The definition thing is opinion, some will see it as effective some won't. If the government (Patel) want to publicly knock it then provide facts and figures to show it isn't effective and then maybe help move it forward to an effective level.
Fair play to Tyrone Mings for calling out that hypocrite waste of space Priti Patel. Trying to gain support for the anti racist message after slating the taking the knee and spending the last 3 years demonising refugees. Same as Boris, trying to appear to say the right thing now, on the back of calling black people pickannines with watermelon smiles. and his Letterbox Arab women comments. ****in hypocrites.
Don’t get me wrong like, I’d be gutted if England pulled out of it, but the message would be so powerful. My respect for this group of players would go through the roof if they made a collective statement saying they refuse to take part in it. I reckon several other countries would get on board with it pretty quickly. Just needs one stronger nation to stick their head above the parapet.
Id be gutted not to see us in it. But like you, I’d have so much respect for the team if they refused to play there. And like you also say, I think other teams would follow suit. The whole Qatar WC was based on the back of the corruption of Sep Blatter and Platini at FIFA. Tainted comp, paid for with back handers and paid for with the lives on the back of exploited construction workers
Sorry, what? You're saying they can't protest against racism because they're going to play in Qatar? That's bollocks.
