Sooner or later the Govt.will have to grasp the fact that the NHS is going to have to be adequately financed to cope with the future. Privatisation won't work,they know that, the chaos over the care homes at the start of this pandemic proved it.

I think its more insulting that they willingly went when asked to give their lives in one of the worst conflicts in human history to ensure the future for a generation who have cried and whinged because they've been asked to stay indoors for a bit and wear piece of cloth over their faces when they go out.
Anybody know how many celebrities, sports stars, TV stars, MPs died of this disease? Not f*cking one. Masks. Read the WHO advice. They recommend that only personnel giving medical or clinical care wear them for the duration of the treatment itself They actually harm the wearer. We are meant to breathe out carbon dioxide. Does anybody actually think these filters work? Cloth masks even worse. You are breathing back in the fibres once they become moist. I will wear them if requested. The only positive about masks is being a part time shoplifter I have acquired a lot more goods without being recognised.
Sensible people will keep quiet on this topic, for now. Then, IF the policy proves to be right, they can chime in with 'I always knew it was the right thing to do'. IF it's a disaster, they can chime in with, 'I knew it would be a mistake'. However, I'm to old for fence sitting. If we wait till there is no risk at all we MIGHT still be under restrictions come next New Years Day, but I dont know which one. After all, we have been told that this is something we are going to have to live with from now on. It's going to exist in Society, in some form or other rather like measels. And like measels we have protection but not elimination. I wouldn't mind some extention of the mask wearing on public transport. Perhaps shops too. Some investigations and new regulations on what constitutes proper ventilation standards. Those who can not take the vaccines are going to be at risk, but presumably they are at risk against all sorts of things already for the same reasons, It's time to try to return to some sort of normality. It's a bullit that has to be bitten at some time. So, that's me nailed my colours to the mast. HOW ABOUT YOU??? (I see I've been overusing metaphors this morning, sorry).
Agree with all of that. The key part of this is that there will never be a "right time" to open up because, as you say, we will never be rid of covid
I'll probably continue to wear a mask in a supermarket, on the tube, things like that. Not going to in a pub mind.
Aye, tube is probably sensible. Haven't been on public transport since my train journey home in March 2019 so not sure how I'd feel about it. Hazmat suit might be better with some of the scrotes on the Metro
I'm just waiting to see who's going to be first to attempt to claim compensation from an organisation for failing to provide a safe environment leading to them catching covid and subsequent financial loss or death. Remember where's there is blame there is a claim Said slightly tongue in cheek but you just know someone is going to try it
I think sensible people realise that there is no going back to normal. Like you rightly say, we have to learn to live with Covid. It could be decades before things go back to pre-pandemic normality. We do small things everyday to try to prevent the spread of viruses, such as covering our faces when we cough or sneeze, without even thinking about. That's just polite. So it would also be polite to demonstrate that you're doing what you can to prevent the spread of Covid. Wearing a mask and keeping a sensible distance from people would do that. Some of that needs to be enshrined in law, as it has been for other diseases (spitting in public was an offence until 1990 to help stop the spread of TB), because its still not second nature to most people. Its also important that these things are requirement rather than a request because, as you can see from this board, the world is split between people who will remain cautious and those who will behave like the virus has gone away. This has the potential to cause significant discord in public settings and medics are already saying that they are concerned that this has the potential to lead to conflict. It will hardly be fair on the people who have followed the rules throughout the pandemic and who wish (or need) to remain cautious if they feel that they cannot go out in public, and live with as much normality as possible, because the inconsiderate have abandoned all pretence of acknowledging the presence of Covid.
Stay indoors for a bit? Try a year and a half of restrictions. With people like you begging for more.
I would agree with pubs and restaurants when you're sitting down. If I'm standing at the bar or going to the bog, I'll wear a mask out of courtesy to others. Some shops get very crowded, so I'll wear one there too.
Oh no! A year and half of some very minor restrictions . A large part of that time it's still been possible to go to the pub, go to restaurants, go to tourist attractions, to go to the shops, and to see other people. Some minor hardships for a little while to protect other people. Hardly compares to what people had to go through in the past.
Long COVID is where the smart folk are going. It's the new bad back/mental health for skivers. After having had work take the piss out of me for 28 years, I'm getting on this bandwagon for the last two.
