There was a club captain on the field for a while tonight who was hooked after a brief sub appearance because he wasn't up to taking a penalty.
Some are willing to face the pressure, others just aren't.

Just another copy of the usual English tournament experience

Beat some poor teams, get over excited, get beat by the first good team they face.It just to longer to face that good team this time round.

You've got your golden boys, regardless of how ****e they've played, they continue to play. Watching kane lumber about for the last month has been a mix of comical and painful to watch.

If Southgate managed in the prem, his tactics would be derided. He's fat Sam in a waistcoat.

Having watched a fair bit of the tournament, from a neutral point of view, England where one of the most boring to watch.

Kane wandered round in the midfield when there was plenty of space, he looked good without actually producing anything.

As soon as the Italians got control of the game, he disappeared. Maybe watching united over the last few years has dropped your standards on what having a great game means.

Oh dear, I think you may have had a bit to much pop lad if the best you can come up with is to mock my user name. I'm amazed nobody has thought of it before, or possibly in the last 30 years that it's been my nickname, do you not think every knobhead who can't think of anything to say has trotted out the same old ****.

Night night. A couple of paracetamol and a big drink if water will help with having a bad head in the morning

So the morning after. I have a huge hole in my bank balance and feel sh*t. At the beginning of the tournament, I said that Southgate wasn’t good enough > way too negative. And so it proved; 1 shot on target is p1ss poor. Southgate lucked out getting to the final but was found wanting in it.

    Well done Italy. Well deserved.

perhaps he was hooked because he would have been up for it and Southgate didn’t fancy him? Who could argue with his choices though….no…..wait <whistle>

I think he got everything right.

Especially the bit where your mancs are basically ****e.

    Rashford and sancho. Pantomime villains.

Maguire, needs 3 cbs and 2 blockers in front of him every time we play a decent side? Shameful.

    ;)

Once we beat germany the draw was wide open to make it to the final. It was a good run.

The cost is going to be in covid though.but nobody wants to know.

I think the problem was more that he would have wanted to take a penalty, but no-one else wanted him to...

Feel frustrated more than anything else. Aside from the goal (which was nice) the attack just didn't really click. One touch too many, the last pass just off, an Italian foot in the way at the last minute, a poor shot... One shot on target is poor, but we were never going to have loads against Italy. We seemed be waiting for the one golden opportunity that ultimately never came.

The reason for it not clicking was probably a combination of management and individual performances. But to say that Southgate lucked out getting to the final is harsh. We did beat decent teams, and there are plenty of teams who lost to "lesser" opposition, e.g. France and Netherlands.

Italy probably just about deserved it on the night, and definitely over the course of the tournament.

I just don’t rate the bloke. We beat a Germany team on the decline and a half decent Danish team. Look at The other side of the draw…we got so lucky but we can agree to disagree, no problem.

my biggest issue with how Gareth set us up was that, apart from the first few minutes, we were neither pressing high or sitting back and counter attacking - the stat show just 2 counter attacks all game. This despite carving then open in 2 minutes - how he set us up, given attacking players at our disposal is criminal imo

If we look at what snoregate has at his disposal.

Pickford. No way you play a high line with that joker. Distribution is poor and he panics.

Maguire. Heroic donkey. Utd and England play a deep line for him. Looks good kicking everything out but can't turn and is slow.

A plethora of right backs. He picks the most defensive one who went about coughing up chances all tournament.

Shaw played really well in the tournament but Southgate starts with trippier at left full and wouldn't let shaw cross halfway v Scotland #norisk. Chilwell got how much time?

Two total blockers in midfield and Mount negated a pressing role. So many options here as attacking midfielders, none trusted as they don't defend enough.

Wingers. Sancho got one game and got hooked. Saka can play full back and is strong so trusted defensively. In every game sterling was moved and stopped playing yet time and again this was done.

Strikers. Why bother bringing any when it's the kane show. Came alive in a couple games, worked out of a really lugging half fit state but was never subbed, just did a bit v Ukraine and was Saint Harry again. Played one good pass out wide right yesterday and took a good pen. That was it really.

All about hard work and perspiring, not inspiring.

It's not the defend deep stuff that gets me, I can see why he thinks people would be exposed. No it's the total lack of trust in the talent and refusal to find a system to get the most out of the best players.
