Some right misery guts on here! England are in the Final of the Euro's for the first time ever! Where's the passion, the support? As a great woman once said "let's be 'avin yea"
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
When the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the Lion;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'Goal for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Apparently the allams suggested sweet Caroline to the faIt's not so much 'snobbish' about the song, it's more the manufactured aspect of them belting out the music at high volumes to orchestrate things. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefer the spontaneous aspect of crowd involvement rather than a Last Night of the Proms orchestrated effort..
EDIT to add, it tainted the Wembley visits for me.
There’ll be no moaning when city play goal music then will thereThe passion and support is there, it just needs the right opportunity to be heard. That's why it doesn't need the manufactured performing seals pap.![]()

pleased somebody else has said it, ive always seen it as making use of home advantage..
if England where playing away i would expect our anthem to be booed to create a hostile environment. found it hard to understand the constant disrespect talk, etc.
I once used the catchy phrase "A Minge of Managers" at a wage negotiation meeting...Didn't go down to well.I think that's a brilliant addition to the collective nouns list. a “disturbance of national anthems”
