Don't we just get France or Germany (whichever wins that group) in the 1/4 instead?
Got to play (lose to) them at some point.

You must see that when he comes up against some decent opposition he folds?
Surely.
Croatia, world semi final. Holland, nations league final.
Commeth the hour.........
Anyway, let's see.
As I've said from the very start, if we get to the quarters we've done well. Semi final is amazing.
We won't.
No amount of Engurland tub thumping changes that.
I think you're causing a few red faces mate.![]()
Yeah but they still have to be managed, and I think he's doing a good job.
Very much this.
It's more than simply two results, or simply looking at it as 4 points from 2 games. The performance as much as the result is an indicator of how we'll do in the knockout rounds.
If the squad was **** I'd have no qualms at all and consider a Q/F as the side doing well. But we have a decent squad (maybe some lack of depth in central defence but otherwise very good) and some real talent in key positions especially the attack. Yet tactically we've demonstrated pedestrian football, playing in front of the opposition, passing sideways and back instead of playing to those very talented players' strengths. That's largely down to the manager and the coaching.
When you instil that mentality in the players and put out the type of performance we've seen in both our opening games, we'll crumble the moment we come up against decent opposition. And it won't be because the players are **** because they're not - but because it's the style of football the manager is putting out.
Well he's reached 2 semi's which is a lot better than our previous golden generation managed, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.I'd say he's more or less doing what was expected, a lot of England fans fancied us to do well this summer. We've got a blinding team of players and the depth to go with it in most areas.
We're probably in/ reaching that situation that Spain had 12+ years ago or what Belgium had for the last 5-6 years, a potential golden generation. Hopefully Southgate follows in Aragones/ del Bosque's footsteps with Spain and not Martinez's with Belgium.
Well said mate
I can't get my head around how negative people are about us. We are sitting on 4 points from 2 games without a goal conceded and posters on here seem to think for some reason that we are terrible. They don't support England, they just whinge about us all the time. I'd hope a lot of these would stay away from England games, they'd bring us nothing but negativity with their bleating on.
Some of the comments I'm seeing suggests that they're just spitting out things that have been associated with England for a long time even though it doesn't apply now. Southgate is the first manager in my lifetime that has ****ed the big names off and will play players in form, instead. Leeds and West Ham midfielders as our central partnership... That's always been a position filled by the big club players.
I disagree about the goalkeeper position. Pickford is average at club level but for whatever reason he excels at international level. I thought he has been solid up until now.
I've noticed it's the big club supporters that are making most of the noise. Their arrogance is something to behold. We know we've not got the best squad or players in the world but yet Southgates record is very good with what he's got, just not good enough for them. A world cup semi-final, 3rd in the nations league, and so far we are getting out of this group without breaking a sweat. However, we aren't destroying teams 5-0 every game with free flowing football so we are ****e and Southgate needs replaced.
What's the point in following a team (they don't definitely don't support) if you are just going to tell everybody how **** they're and almost take pleasure in being knocked out so they can tell everybody that they were right. I don't get it.
But he wasn't having a downer on England. While conveniently ignoring that he said Italy were the weakest team in the other half and wouldn't get past Belgium.
I saw the bait.....It is but it’s also fun watching @Peej have a meltdown whenever Pickford is criticised

He's as bland as they come who's pretty fortunate he's managing the best group of players we've had for a couple decades.
Nice bloke though.
None of those are my country.Oh, and by the way.
Not everyone is right, every time.
Easy to be correct after the fact.

He's a ****ing legend is what he is. A proper Englishman, quiet, unassuming...
...and a winner.
You're a Spurs fan ffs, haven't you had enough of "characters" and "big personalities" in the manager's seat?
I hope he'll be that come Sunday evening.
Keep up the Spurs obsession though, matey![]()

I think he's done a fantastic job with them, never been sure of his tactical acumen, juries still out on that, but no one can deny that this is one of the most 'together' squads we've had. I don't see any egos out there, just players that trust, and will play, for each other. That's down to him, and in a choice between a tactical genius and a manager that inspires, I'll take the 2nd every time, and that's what we've got.Yeah but they still have to be managed, and I think he's doing a good job.
