Just been watching Redmen tv podcast and they had an interesting take on transfers. They reckon that Klopp needs to see Virgil, Gomez and Matip in preseason to see where they are up to in terms of playing a competitive game before committing a chunk of any transfer budget on forwards or midfielders. Konaté may need another partner if all three CB's look way off the pace. It could also mean that we will hold onto Phillips for the same reason.
dont see us buying another defender just because the other 3 may not be quite fit enough yet. Would be very short sighted and would leave us with a 5 first team defenders plus Williams, Phillips & Davies as back up. We don’t need 8 centre backs at the club
I can see us just holding onto Phillips if one or two look a bit off, but to go spend another 30m on a defender would be crazy.
