Carole Cadwalladr @carolecadwalla I grew up in Wales where the Japanese car industry was welcomed as one of the very few rays of light in a bleak unemployment blackspot. Sorry for your loss, Sunderland. You were lied to. Mmm a narrow win is s win so fair play to her. However if you believe Labour under Starmer is doing well then good luck with that.
I've never said that, Starmer is the leader of the worse government opposition for many a year, the same as Boris bumbling from one crisis to another just dont make him out to be a great leader because he's far from that
As i said well done to Jo Cox sister. It was always going to be a tough one to win. Captain Hindsight saved his job for now.
I agree, well done to Jo Cox's sister. It has interesting ramifications for Labour. Listening to Peter Mandelson this morning, it's a blow for Corbynites who were expecting to put their own candidate - Angela Rayner? - up for a leadership election. Labour limp on... Labour is increasingly holding itself out as the environmental party, intent on protecting the green belt. This is poacher turned gamekeeper, but the Tories must beware that if they are seen as representing Tory donor developers that will bulldoze the countryside and blitz the wildlife for profit, they will lose a lot of voters, and I'll be one of them.
For Labour to win this by-election despite Galloway taking 22% of the vote seems like an exceedingly good result to me.
They already represent that, the government rather than fining the developers over unsafe cladding and flammable buildings would rather just pay for the changes using tax payers money
Past use of unsafe cladding etc is a matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions and the criminal courts. PS What does President mean, next to your name, Bobby?
Oh its just an in joke on the pl board. There was a u.s. election thread and it was trump, china china china, biden etc. My name was up there and i got the most votes so the mod put president under my name. Not sure labour moving to be the environmental party will make much difference. I guess they can try to nick some of the greens who i think will stay faithful but with the country the way it is (no noticeable recession) and us still spending big i dont see much change in the status quo
9k majority in 2017 down to 300. “captain Hindsight is running around like he has won the world cup. If he thinks holding a strong labour seat and losing Hartlepool is some sort of good thing, I would hate to see a bad result” just on tv.
Galloway took 22% of the vote, most if not all would have gone to Labour,as Stroller said if Galloway hadn't stood it would have been a comfortable Labour hold
