So I have a 6 yo daughter who’s class needs to isolate as a teacher has tested positive. Another 4yo daughter in the same school who doesn’t need to isolate and neither do I.

I don’t have any help this week so I’d need to take both daughters with me for the school drop off and pick up. School says I’m not allowed as one needs to isolate.

So my only choice is either leave a 6 year old at home alone or keep them both off school, which would lead to an unauthorised absence for my 4yo. Rules are set by the department of education not the school so can’t really blame them.

Is it just me who thinks this is ****ing moronic?

I thought teachers testing positive didn’t effect the pupils as they are distanced? That’s the crack In my daughters school, I would ring the school and tell them sorry, I can’t get her to school as not prepared to leave the other home alone, the only other thing would be put her in a taxi but not sure how comfortable I would be with that either

School have confirmed this to be the case so I’m keeping them both off. Seems like the rules are being made up as they go along.

Luckily my work is flexible but it’s pissed me off a bit.

Kind of hoping I get a call or letter about unauthorised absence after the fact as I’ll go ballistic.

At my kids primary school I've seen siblings who are meant to be isolating come to school so their sibling can be dropped off. They are not the ones who have tested positive but still. It's a farce mate.

If they have sense and you've not been arsed in the past, the school will authorise it. However, its worth exploring any options to get the other one in - a friend or neighbour? One thing some do is drive in with both kids in the car and throw one out at the school gate. It's a bastard, but as you say, the schools are following the regulations set which are really ****ing vague and change every 10 minutes.
