At 0-1 down they have to come out and play. Eventually it will either be pens where pickford dives early and decent pen takers tap in or England have to chase the game and end up wide open.
The thing is, it's bullshit anyway. There is no way playing defensive boring coward's football is going to improve your chances of being successful in the latter stages of any tournament - club or country. I get sick of ppl saying "but we conceded the least and got X points so far". Yeh but did you see the game? Did you see we couldn't pass through their midfield, we couldn't create chances against mediocre sides, did you see how we pass back because our football is so pedestrian we signpost our every move? Do you not see when we come up against a world class side that means we'll get pegged back and destroyed?
Tbf you could tell the experience he brings and the side needs at least one player in that midfield with that experience.
Hendo is unfairly criticised because of his he used to be. He's a very good player that often goes under the radar. We've (Liverpool) massively missed him this season.
Part of the reason I truly despise international tournaments; everyone becomes an expert when in reality they clearly know the square root of ****all.
I'll be honest, I'd rather go through being boring than go out in the group stages being exciting. And France and Portugal were hardly thrilling at the last tournaments but I'm guessing most fans were happy with the wins. But at some point something has to change for England because that level of performance won't cut it against the better teams. To be fair, the first half was significantly better than the second, and the second ultimately didn't need to be better, but it felt like a free shot to try something more exciting and we just didn't.
Yeah those couple of passes when he came on briefly spoke of promise. If only he and the rest of the team had done that more.
So, is this the team Gareth will play in the next round? Pickford Walker Stones Maguire Shaw Rice Mount Philips Foden Kane Sterling Could see Grealish instead of Mount, especially given the isolation, and possibly Trippier ahead of Shaw, but that's about it. Saka and Hendo will be on the bench imo.
I post this on the PL board but if he had ANY sense he'd play Saka on the left (his natural position) and Foden on the right. That's option 1. Option 2 - drop Kane, play all 3 (Foden, Saka, Sterling) with Foden playing a false 9. But there's NO NO NO chance he's dropping Sterling or Kane so fck it.
I thought he went with Trippier over Shaw in the first game because he saw Trippier as defensively better than Shaw. Hence why it wouldn't surprise me if Tripper started on the left in the next game against better opposition. I think Shaw will now keep his position though.
You would think Saka would be undroppable after being man of the match, but I don't really see him starting. To be fair, Sterling is our only goalscorer so far so I probably would start him now. There'snonway Kane's getting dropped. Maybe he'll get a "minor injury" this week.
